B) Briefly explain how ONE specific historical event or development from the period between 1845

and 1911 can be used to support Beveridge's interpretation.

Answers

One specific historical event that can be used to support Beveridge's interpretation is the rise of labor movements and the push for workers' rights during the period between 1845 and 1911.

During the period between 1845 and 1911, there was a significant development in the form of labor movements and the fight for workers' rights. This period witnessed the rise of industrialization and the emergence of a working class that faced harsh working conditions, low wages, and long hours.

Workers began to organize themselves into unions and engage in collective bargaining to demand better working conditions, fair wages, and improved social protections.

This development aligns with Beveridge's interpretation, which emphasizes the need for a comprehensive social welfare system to address the social and economic challenges faced by the working class.

The labor movements and their demands for workers' rights were a response to the injustices and inequalities created by the industrialization process. They sought to protect workers' interests, improve their living standards, and provide a safety net against the risks and uncertainties of industrial society.

The efforts of these labor movements contributed to the eventual establishment of social reforms and policies aimed at addressing the needs of the working class, supporting Beveridge's view of the importance of social welfare in creating a more equitable society.

n 1965, the us initiated an immigration act that allowed immigrants to enter the us based on their professions. prior to this act, what type of migrations were possible from asia to the us?

Answers

Prior to the 1965 Immigration Act, Asian migration to the United States was restricted and largely driven by labor demand. The Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882 banned Chinese immigrants from entering the United States, followed by other laws that restricted immigration from Asia.

In the early 20th century, Japanese immigration was limited to only a few thousand per year. Filipinos were allowed to migrate to the United States as American nationals until 1934 when they were restricted to a quota of 50 per year. South Asians, such as Indians and Pakistanis, were not allowed to immigrate to the United States at all. The Bracero program allowed temporary agricultural workers from Mexico to work in the United States, but there was no similar program for Asian workers. Overall, Asian migration to the United States was heavily restricted prior to the 1965 Immigration Act, which marked a significant shift towards a more open immigration policy.

what are the causes of the great depression? how did the european states respond to the great depression? how did america cope with the depression?

Answers

The causes of the Great Depression can be attributed to several factors, including the stock market crash of 1929, bank failures, and a decrease in global trade. European states responded to the Great Depression with various economic policies, such as implementing protectionist measures and devaluing currencies. America coped with the Depression by introducing the New Deal, which consisted of a series of government programs aimed at providing relief, recovery, and reform for the struggling economy.

The Great Depression, which lasted from 1929 to 1939, was caused by a combination of factors. One major cause was the stock market crash of 1929, which led to a loss of confidence in the economy and a decline in consumer spending. Other factors included overproduction and overconsumption, high levels of debt, and a lack of government regulation in the financial sector.

In response to the Great Depression, European states implemented a range of policies aimed at stabilizing their economies. Some countries, such as Germany and Italy, turned to fascism and authoritarianism as a way to control the economy and maintain social order. Others, such as Britain and France, pursued policies of economic nationalism and protectionism, which aimed to stimulate domestic industries and reduce reliance on foreign trade.

In the United States, President Franklin D. Roosevelt implemented the New Deal, a series of policies designed to stimulate economic growth and alleviate the worst effects of the depression. The New Deal included measures such as public works programs, increased government regulation of the financial sector, and social welfare programs like Social Security. While the New Deal did not end the depression, it helped to mitigate its effects and laid the groundwork for future economic growth.

Which best explains how storms and hurricanes contributed to the end of the land boom? They contaminated the environment. They caused property damage, injury, and loss of life for many citizens. They led to extensive fraud and speculation. They changed the state’s climate, which caused many citizens to leave.

Answers

The option that best explains how storms and hurricanes contributed to the end of the land boom is:

"They caused property damage, injury, and loss of life for many citizens."

During the land boom, there was a rapid increase in real estate development in coastal areas, particularly in Florida. However, these coastal areas were also vulnerable to severe weather events like storms and hurricanes. These natural disasters caused significant property damage, injuries, and loss of life for many citizens. As a result, many people were reluctant to invest in coastal real estate, and demand for property decreased, leading to the end of the land boom.

While storms and hurricanes may have also contributed to environmental contamination, fraud and speculation, and changes in the state's climate, the primary impact that directly affected the real estate market was the physical destruction of properties and loss of life caused by these natural disasters.

Imagine you were an immigrant coming to America in the late 1800s. What might your life look like once you have arrived in America? (You may choose to write this from the perspective of either a European immigrant or an Asian immigrant) (First Person Narrative)

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

I am from Asia, I am a Chinese immigrant. There are a lot of different people here. Most of them seemed to have arrived from northern and western European countries. They are referring to us migrating as the "old immigration wave" to the United States. I arrived on the West Coast (early 1850s). There are a lot here already. During the California Gold Rush, about 25,000 Chinese immigrants came to the United States. Famine in China pushed Chinese people such as me and my family from our original homeland. We took the opportunity to come to America in hopes of securing jobs or land. The Midwest was what we hoped for (my family and I) with its open spaces available for farming was the best option. Immigrants from Asia were attracted to the West Coast for the same reason that European immigrants were drawn to the East Coast. Jobs created by industrialization pulled immigrants to the cities.

The overseas journeys for immigrants were very difficult. Most immigrants traveled below-deck areas where the ship's steering mechanisms were located. Many of us became sick during the long voyage in the cramped and dirty places.

All types of immigrants from Asia arrived at Angel Island, in the San Francisco Bay. Congress passed the Chinese Exclusion Act of 1882, which prohibited new people like us coming to the U.S. The Chinese Exclusion Act limited Chinese immigration. The act was supposed to last only ten years but was not repealed until 1943.Only people whose fathers were U.S. citizens could enter the United States. States were difficult for many newly arrived immigrants. Many bought counterfeit papers that identified them as children of citizens. Angel Island officials had us there for months before accepting or rejecting our people.

We arrived in California (1850s) seeking riches, but instead we ended up working as manual laborers. We (Chinese immigrants) did much of the work laying track from west to east on the transcontinental railroad. On the West Coast, Chinese immigrants labored first in the gold mines and later as railroad workers.

We lived in overcrowded, poorly constructed apartment buildings. Our community worked in dirty and dangerous factories, small shops, or mills called sweatshops. The conditions for these jobs were absolutely terrible. Most of us worked in unskilled jobs in the garment industry or construction.

We were given dangerous jobs and paid less than other workers. There was a lot of discrimination between us. Life was difficult for my family. Jobs had low pay and long hours. Though we faced a great deal of prejudice, some of us were eventually able to open their own businesses, working as launderers, shoemakers, and other service jobs.

In conclusion, We faced a great deal of prejudice for being Chinese (being from Asia). People called nativists wanted literacy tests for immigrants, especially like us. Congress passed a literacy test in 1917 to keep people who could not read English from entering the country. This was mostly meant for us. Then Congress decided to pass the Immigration Act of 1924, it limited total immigration to 164,000 people per year. In July 1927, the number was reduced to 150,000 per year. It banned Asian immigration completely. The act also restricted immigration from southern and eastern Europe. My family and I came from China. My family thought it would be in my best interest. We live in a community filled with our own, so we can keep traditions and culture, mostly everything else has changed. It is not the nieces place to live, but it is what we call home now. Overall this whole experience was not pleasant.

The harbor that I had left a while ago was not as busy as the harbor that I have just arrived in. I am filled with the hopes that my life will be made easier in the United States of America. That will be able to be free and live the life that I want, a better life for the future. I am in line at a small island before I go to the main land and there are people that are trying to get the men to allow their kids in but they say no, I wonder why the kids have big letters on the back of their clothes? Once I got in to the building they did all sorts of tests and then they let me through. when I went to the center I here someone speak in my native language and I start to gravitate towards them. When I get to them they explain these job opportunities and I jump to the chance. However, when I got the neighborhood that I would live in for a long time to come, there it was barely something that a adult would want to live in let alone a child. After a few months I realize that the streets are not paved with gold and that I would have been better off with staying at home. If I had known I wouldn't have come here.

What is the legacy and relevance of the Medieval Period to our world today?

(if you do choose to write an essay for the answer that would be soo helpful to me but bullet points that I can use for my essay is okay as well I appreciate all help :))

Answers

Answer:

Today, the period in Europe from about the year 500 through approximately 1500 CE is called the Middle Ages, or the medieval era (the word medieval comes from the Latin medium aevum, literally middle age). But of course people who lived at that time did not think of themselves as being in the middle of anything—they, like we, referred to their own time as “modern.” A seventeenth-century German historian, Christoph Keller, first came up with the idea of dividing history into ancient, medieval, and “new period.”

The cultural phenomenon called the Renaissance began in Italy during the fourteenth century and spread throughout much of Europe by the end of the sixteenth century. It involved a flowering of art and scholarly and philosophical pursuits, often inspired by a renewed interest in the Classical cultures of ancient Greece and Rome. Some historians of the nineteenth century saw the Renaissance as a sharp break with the medieval “dark ages,” a sudden burst of intellectual light after the supposed gloom and stagnation of the Middle Ages.
