answer for historical and scientific knowledge (comprehension sss2)?

Answers

Historical tales have the ability to illuminate the motivations of those involved, the challenges they faced, and the complicated environment in which these historical personalities actually lived.

Explain historical and scientific knowledge?

The credible retelling of human events is one of the characteristics that distinguish historical narratives.Students must learn to read imaginatively in order to consider what the narrative reveals about the humanity of the individuals and groups involved—their motives and intentions, their values and ideas, their hopes, doubts, fears, strengths, and weaknesses. This is necessary in order to read historical stories, biographies, autobiographies, and narratives with comprehensionLearning historical perspectives—the capacity to explain the past in its own words, through the eyes and experiences of individuals who were there—is also necessary for understanding historical narratives.Students should learn to avoid "present-mindedness" by not assessing the past exclusively in terms of the norms and values of today but instead taking into account the historical context in which the events unfolded by studying the literature, diaries, letters, debates, arts, and artifacts of past peoples. The development of these abilities starts in early life with the use of wonderfully written biographies that captivate young readers' attention and give them a solid foundation for further historical study.Historical literature should continue to play a significant role in the curriculum as students enter middle school and high school because it can capture historical events with dramatic immediacy, pique students' interests, and promote a deeper understanding of the historical context and cultural milieu.Students should also acquire the abilities necessary to comprehend historical narratives that explain as well as recount the course of events and that analyze relationships among the various forces that were in play at the time and influenced how events unfolded, in addition to these significant outcomes. These abilities consist of: recognizing the rhetorical cues that indicate how the author has organized the text, identifying the central question the historical narrative seeks to answer, defining the purpose, perspective, or point of view from which the narrative has been constructed, and reading the historical explanation or analysis with meaning. To user groups, and this necessitates the dissemination of information based on science to various classes of users, the majority of whom are nonscientists. The need to translate or transform the forecast's scientific content—which is mathematical and statistical in nature and includes the related uncertainty—into content that is understandable to audiences that aren't typically educated in those fields is inherent to the difficulty. The intricacy and transparency of the scientific content included inside those forms, as opposed to only the ways in which the information is presented or transmitted (such as text versus visuals), are even more relevant to the forecast interpretation difficulty. The scientific content of TC descriptions and forecasts, including the uncertainty, and end users' capacity to appropriately understand and interpret the information are two major areas of dissonance and disconnect examined in this article. It focuses on the three storm characteristics for which a forecast is available, namely severity, track, and magnitude, within the framework of previous research studies, public polls, and actual government documents that especially offer insights into this topic. The findings imply that the TC descriptions and forecasts still require some preexisting scientific knowledge that may or may not be present among the various groups of nonspecialist users after their scientific content has been processed for the benefit of nonscientists.

"Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted" by Malcolm Gladwell

What does Gladwell explain "strong-tie" phenomena in relation to past and current activism?

How does Shirky’s example of the Sidekick correlate to the point Gladwell is trying to make?

Is Gladwell completely disproving the idea that strong-ties cannot be created through social media?

Do you agree that social media makes it harder for an activist’s expression to have an impact? Why or why not?

Why did Gladwell not consider Sameer Bhatia’s story a story of activism?

Answers

In his essay “Small Change: Why the Revolution Will Not Be Tweeted,” Malcolm Gladwell claims that strong-ties, deep and meaningful connections between individuals, are necessary for effective activism.

He uses the example of Sidney Tarrow’s civil rights movement and the prominence of women’s suffrage as evidence that in-person connections are more stimulating and important than technological ones. Clay Shirky’s example of the Sidekick can also be used to emphasize Gladwell’s point that technological revolutions are not as successful as personal ones.

Shirky gives an example of how the Sidekick’s users wrote letters and organized rallies when the gadget was having issue, rather than exclusively using online platforms as a method to voice their discontent. Gladwell thus argues that creating a robust strong-tie network is challenging through social media, since it does not require the same level of sustained engagement as offline activism.

Considering this, it does appear that social media might not be the most effective tool for activist expression to have an impact. With limited messages and attention spans online, activists may be unable to construct the type of ties they need to enact social change.

Answers

The use of similes and metaphors in the poem "The Black Snake" helps to create vivid imagery and communicate the theme of the poem. The similes and metaphors used in the poem contribute to the overall message of the poem, which is to show the beauty and power of nature and its creatures.

In the poem "The Black Snake," the author uses figurative language, specifically similes and metaphors, to create meaning and communicate the theme. Let's take a look at how similes and metaphors are used in the poem to create meaning or communicate the theme of the poem.

A simile is a comparison between two things using "like" or "as." In the poem, the following similes are used: "His eyes are like pools of oil" and "His skin is like polished midnight." Both of these similes help to create a vivid description of the snake.

The comparison of the snake's eyes to "pools of oil" implies that they are dark and mysterious, while the comparison of his skin to "polished midnight" suggests that it is black, shiny, and sleek. By using these similes, the author is able to create a more vivid image of the snake in the reader's mind.

A metaphor is a comparison between two things without using "like" or "as." In the poem, the following metaphor is used: "He winds through the trees like a slender stream." This metaphor is used to describe the snake's movement through the trees. By comparing the snake to a "slender stream," the author is able to convey the snake's sinuous movement and its ability to navigate through the trees with ease.

Answers

The capital letters in the poem "If—" by Rudyard Kipling C. highlight the shared abilities of successful people.

The capital letters in the poem "If—" by Rudyard Kipling do not specifically contrast sincerity and dishonesty. Instead, they serve a broader purpose in emphasizing experiences that everyone faces. By capitalizing certain words such as "Triumph," "Disaster," and "Truth," Kipling brings attention to these universal concepts and the significance they hold in shaping one's character.

The capitalization suggests that these experiences are essential aspects of life that require a particular attitude and approach. It highlights the importance of maintaining composure and balance in the face of both success and failure, truth and deception. The capital letters draw attention to these moments of challenge and adversity, reminding the reader of the need to confront them with equanimity and resilience.

By emphasizing these shared experiences through capitalization, Kipling aims to impart a message of wisdom and guidance. The poem encourages readers to navigate life's ups and downs with grace, integrity, and a level-headed mindset, recognizing that both triumph and disaster are temporary and should be treated with the same measured response. Therefore, Option C is correct.

The events of the story would seem to lead up to the current day.

The shift in tense would clearly separate the two time periods for the reader.

Answers

Effect(s) of using past tense for the beginning and middle but switching to present tense for the ending is:

The events of the story would seem to lead up to the current day.

The shift in tense would clearly separate the two time periods for the reader.

When creating a story, the tense is crucial because it aids with event sequencing. It's because the events in the story have led up to the present that the writer has chosen to use a simple past at the beginning and middle before switching to a simple present. The reader can easily distinguish between the present and previous halves of the novel.

In communication, both verbal and written, tenses are used to specify the moment at which something occurred. The sender's message could be misunderstood and confused if the tenses are used incorrectly.

The same effect of having the reader feel as though they are experiencing the action of the story as it is happening in real time can be achieved by writing in the present tense while writing prose fiction. Compared to a single character telling the story in the past tense, this makes the reader feel more involved in the narrative.

You may control time in a story by using the past tense to reveal and hide events. Fiction written in the past tense produces a subtler form of tension were, while knowing the result of the tale, we still want to know how and why we got there. CEO Jim Kean and his two cofounders had raised $5 million in investor capital to launch their vision: an Internet-based health- care information subscription service. The idea was to create an Internet community for people suffering from chronic diseases. It would provide members with expert information, resources, a message board, and chat rooms so that people suffering from the same ailments could provide each other with information and support. "Who would be more voracious consumers of information than people who are faced with life-changing, life- threatening illnesses?" thought Bill Kelly, one of SHNs cofounders. Initial market research and beta tests had sup- ported that view.During the beta tests, however, the service had been offered for free. The troubles began when SHN tried to convert its trial subscribers into paying ones. Fewer than 5 percent signed on, far less than the 15 percent the company had projected. Sapient hired a vice president of marketing who launched an aggressive promotion, but after three months of campaigning SHN still had only 500 members. SHN was now burning through $400,000 per month, with little revenue to show for it.At that point, according to SHN board member Susan Clymer, "there was a lot of scrambling around trying to figure out how we could wring value out of what wed already accomplished." One thing SHN had created was an expert software system that had two components: an "intelligent profile engine" (IPE) and an "intelligent query engine" (IQE). SHN used this system to collect detailed information from its subscribers.SHN was sure that the expert system was its biggest selling point. But how could the company use it? Then the founders re- membered that the original business plan had suggested there might be a market for aggregate data about patient populations gathered from the website. Could they turn the business around by selling patient data? To analyze the possibility, Kean tried out the idea on the market research arm of a huge east coast health- care conglomerate. The officials were intrigued. SHN realized that its expert system could become a market research tool.Once the analysis was completed, the founders made the decision: They would still create Internet communities for chron- ically ill patients, but the service would be free. And they would transform SHN from a company that processed subscriptions to one that sold market research. Finally, they enacted the changes. Some of the changes were painful, including laying off 18 employees. However, SHN needed more healthcare industry expertise. It even hired an in- terim CEO, Craig Davenport, a 25-year veteran of the industry, to steer the company in its new direction. Finally, SHN had to com- municate a new message to its members. It began by reimburs- ing the $10,000 of subscription fees they had paid. All of this paid off dramatically in a matter of just two years. Revenues jumped to $1.9 million, and early in the third year SHN was purchased by WebMD. Less than a year after that, WebMD merged with Healtheon.
