The Giver Chapters 10-13
To what does the Giver compare the feeling of holding the memories of the world, and why?
What memories of natural wonders does Jonas learn the Community has given up in favor of “Sameness”?
What does the Giver say happened to the experience of snow?
What destination does Jonas sense in a dream influenced by the Giver, and why does he remember it?
Answer:
1. They have given up memories like snow, mountains, ranbows.....
2. The first memory he receives is that of sledding in the snow. Snow and the feeling of coldness are new experiences for him. He feels himself on a sled, moving downhill, and even the concept of a hill is new to him. He finds the sled ride experience exhilarating, but this leads him to question the Giver.
3. In the dream, Jonas has the sense that his sled on a hill is meant to be part of a journey to a particular place, "as if there were a destination" (p. 88). And he feels that this is a good thing, that wherever he was meant to journey, it was "welcoming" (88) and "significant" (88).

what is something that has been bothering you lately? what have you been doing to help yourself to feel better?
Answer: Recently I've been stressed about the end of the school year. I've ended with good grades mostly but if I start failing one then I'll have to redo the entire year and I just don't want that to happen.
Explanation: To get rid of stressing out about it I try to distract myself or surround myself with people or things that don't have any relation to what's stressing me out. I hang out with my family, hang out with pets, or even pamper myself just stuff to take my mind off of stressful things. You can take a shower and do a face mask or just random stuff to make you feel nice both physically and mentally. Playing peaceful music in the background of possible stressful situations is also nice (Remind yourself to take a very deep breath sometimes, it really helps me)! I have a lot of anxiety problems so I really hope this helps. <3

MONARCH MAGIC
I watch with awe as you spring
Free from the prison you enclosed yourself in;
Cracking the capsule of crystal that captures
Your beautiful body and budding wings.
You push through, and nature sings.
Like sails catching a sudden gust
Those frail folded flaps unfurl;
The sun toasts them dry of their newborn dew.
They shimmer brightly in a new world;
White dots and black stripes on rust.
Before long you enjoy freedom won,
Vitalized with rest from tiresome struggle
You left behind your chrysalis husk
That kept you safely wrapped in a bundle
And race toward the distant sun.
I know just where you will go,
As you ride the breeze to the horizon.
You will meet millions and travel south
In an orange blanket that smothers the sky
Destined to find home in Mexico.
You will soon rob this land of your grace
And leave it as dull as pale elephant skin
For many months of biting wintry weather
While you dance in warm sun rays
Spreading your magic in that new place.
But someday I will meet your kin
That will bring beauty back to my tree,
Sipping sweet nectar from its new blossoms
And hanging crystalline ornaments.

Where did your beliefs and attitudes about school begin, and how have they changed or developed?
Answer At the start of school or when we were younger, we thought everything was fun and not so serious. When we get older and been in school for a while and meet new friends, our beliefs start to get influenced by a whole new environment and set of people. Our teachers tell us things that we accept as fact. For example, let’s say that we do poorly in math class. Our teacher might tell us that we are not very good at math or that we are lazy. So, you may try to get better, and she/he may help you
How does a story’s time period provide the reader with a reference point? Your answer should be 2 to 3 sentences.
Answer:
The story's time period provides the reader with a reference point, for if someone reads a book about the early eighteen hundreds, they can assume that slavery has not yet been abolished and that people are outwardly racist. This helps provide a reference point, as if you didn't know the time period, you would be confused as why these events were happening.

U.S. pharmacologist (one who studies drug interactions) Gertrude B. Elion received the Nobel prize for medicine in 1988 along with George H. Hitchings and Sir James W. Black. The three were awarded the prize for their development of drugs used to treat several major diseases.
Gertrude Belle Elion was born on Jan. 23, 1918, in New York City. She graduated from Hunter College in New York City with a degree in biochemistry in 1937. Unable to obtain a graduate research position because she was a woman, she took a series of jobs, including lab assistant, chemistry and physics teacher in New York City high schools, and research chemist. During this time she also took classes at New York University, where she earned a master's degree in 1941. Because she could not devote herself to full-time studies, Elion never received a doctorate.
In 1944 Elion joined the Burroughs Wellcome Laboratories (now part of GlaxoSmithKline (a company that makes prescription medicines)). There she was first the assistant and then the colleague of Hitchings, with whom she worked for the next four decades. Elion and Hitchings developed an array (variety) of new drugs that were effective against leukemia, autoimmune disorders, urinary-tract infections, gout, malaria, and viral herpes. Their success was due primarily to their innovative (characterized by new or unique) research methods. Rather than using the trial-and-error approach used by previous pharmacologists, Elion and Hitchings examined the difference between the biochemistry of normal human cells and that of cancer cells, bacteria, viruses, and other pathogens (disease-causing agents). They used this information to create drugs that could target a particular pathogen without harming the human host's normal cells. Their methods enabled them to eliminate much of the guesswork and wasted effort typical in previous drug research.
Although Elion officially retired in 1983, she helped oversee the development of azidothymidine (AZT), the first drug used in the treatment of AIDS. In 1991 she was awarded a National Medal of Science and was inducted into the National Women's Hall of Fame. She died on Feb. 21, 1999, in Chapel Hill, N.C.

4 short well-written paragraphs about recycling and how it helps the community?
Answer:
Recycling is an important practice that helps to protect the environment and the health of the community. Recycling helps to reduce the amount of waste that ends up in landfills, which reduces greenhouse gas emissions and conserves natural resources. When we recycle, we conserve natural resources and reduce the energy required to manufacture new products. By recycling, we can help to preserve our planet's natural resources and protect the health of the community.
Recycling also helps to create jobs and boost the local economy. Recycling facilities and businesses provide employment opportunities for many individuals, including those with limited education and job experience. Recycling also reduces the cost of waste disposal, which can result in lower taxes and fees for the community. By supporting recycling efforts, we can help to create a sustainable local economy that benefits everyone.
Recycling also promotes environmental education and awareness. When we recycle, we learn about the importance of environmental stewardship and the impact of our actions on the planet. Recycling programs also offer opportunities for schools and communities to engage in environmental education, which can lead to increased awareness and positive behavior changes. By promoting environmental education and awareness, we can create a more sustainable and responsible community.
Finally, recycling helps to reduce pollution and protect public health. Landfills are a significant source of air and water pollution, and can pose health risks to nearby communities. When we recycle, we reduce the amount of waste that goes to landfills, which helps to reduce pollution and protect public health. By recycling, we can help to create a healthier and more sustainable community for everyone.
