The lecture gave us a brief overview of Bush, Sr.'s political career and its impact on the United States.

We learned about his successful domestic policies, such as the Americans With Disabilities Act, and his less successful foreign policy decisions, such as his involvement in the Persian Gulf War. Additionally, we discussed the NAFTA agreement that was negotiated by Bill Clinton and saw the importance of trade liberalisation and free markets in improving the lives of citizens.

What particularly stood out to me was the contrast in the successes and failures of Bush, Sr. and the successes and failures of Clinton; the two presidents had significantly different international and domestic policies. Overall, the lecture gave us an understanding of Bush, Sr.'s presidency and its impact on the United States.

Use the passage from William Jennings Bryan's "Cross of Gold" speech to answer the question.

They complain about the plank which declares against the life tenure in office. They have tried to strain it to mean that which it does not mean. What we oppose in that plank is the life tenure that is being built up in Washington which establishes an office-holding class and excludes from participation in the benefits the humbler members of our society.

In a few sentences, identify Bryan's claim in this passage and cite the reasoning he uses in support of his claim.

Answers

Answer:

The most famous speech in American political history was delivered by William Jennings Bryan on July 9, 1896, at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago. The issue was whether to endorse the free coinage of silver at a ratio of silver to gold of 16 to 1. (This inflationary measure would have increased the amount of money in circulation and aided cash-poor and debt-burdened farmers.) After speeches on the subject by several U.S. Senators, Bryan rose to speak. The thirty-six-year-old former Congressman from Nebraska aspired to be the Democratic nominee for president, and he had been skillfully, but quietly, building support for himself among the delegates. His dramatic speaking style and rhetoric roused the crowd to a frenzy. The response, wrote one reporter, “came like one great burst of artillery.” Men and women screamed and waved their hats and canes. “Some,” wrote another reporter, “like demented things, divested themselves of their coats and flung them high in the air.” The next day the convention nominated Bryan for President on the fifth ballot. The full text of William Jenning Bryan’s famous “Cross of Gold” speech appears below. The audio portion is an excerpt. [Note on the recording: In 1896 recording technology was in its infancy, and recording a political convention would have been impossible. But in the early 20th century, the fame of Bryan’s “Cross of Gold” speech led him to repeat it numerous times on the Chautauqua lecture circuit where he was an enormously popular speaker. In 1921 (25 years after the original speech), he recorded portions of the speech for Gennett Records in Richmond, Indiana. Although the recording does not capture the power and drama of the original address, it does allow us to hear Bryan delivering this famous speech.]

the major factor that delayed texas annexation until 1845 was:____

Answers

The major factor that delayed Texas annexation until 1845 was the issue of slavery.

Texas had gained independence from Mexico in 1836 and sought to be annexed by the United States. However, the annexation of Texas was a contentious issue in the United States due to the debate over the expansion of slavery. At the time, Texas was a slave-holding territory, and its annexation would upset the balance between free and slave states in Congress. Northern states opposed the annexation of Texas because it would likely lead to the expansion of slavery and increase the political power of slaveholding states in the Senate. As a result, the issue of Texas annexation became highly politicized and divided along sectional lines. It took several years of political maneuvering and negotiations before Texas was finally annexed by a joint resolution of the United States Congress in 1845, making it the 28th state of the Union. Therefore, the major factor that delayed Texas annexation until 1845 was the controversy and debate over the expansion of slavery.

Republican Reconstructionists who favored a more rapid restoration of southern state governments and opposed radical plans for drastic economic transformation of the south

Answers

Moderate Republicans were Republican Reconstructionists who wanted to get Southern state governments back up and running faster and fought against radical plans to transform the South's economy in a drastic way.

Moderate Republicans during the Reconstruction Era were those who favored a more gradual approach to restoring southern state governments and opposed radical plans for the economic transformation of the South. They believed in a more lenient approach towards the former Confederate states and sought to quickly restore them to the Union rather than implementing harsher measures such as confiscating land from former slaveholders and redistributing it to former slaves. They also opposed the Radical Republicans' plans for drastic economic changes in the South, such as the establishment of a system of sharecropping. Moderate Republicans sought a more moderate, less radical approach to post-Civil War reconstruction in the South.

In 2021 the National Association of State Boards of Education began searching for a new CEO, to replace their current CEO who would be retiring. After interviewing and scouting potential candidates across the country NASBE eventually decided on bringing Paolo DeMaria into the position.
DeMaria was well known for his success as the superintendent of the state of Ohio, which lead to the decision. Paolo has a 30-year background that will help with further his work as NASBE’s new CEO. The change will be a good fit for both DeMaria and NASBE as they both share the same values in furthering the education of children.
I believe that this is an adaptive change, as the change of CEO is between individuals with similar ideals, ethics and backgrounds. So it will not be threating or jarring for employees to adjust to. However there is potential for this to evolve into an innovative change depending on how DeMaria chooses to lead during his time with NASBE. There is a potential for him to introduce new practices and ethics into the company in order to grow.
In terms of values, I believe there were a few changes with the installation of DeMaria as CEO. With his tenure in education, DeMaria already shares most of the values of NASBE. DeMaria has stated that he wishes to see children be challenged in order to further their education, as well as improve overall literacy and overall development of education across the country. Which is already the goal of NASBE.
I believe this organizational change is very beneficial, both for NASBE and the entire country’s education system. Paolo DeMaria has repeatedly shown his passion for change in children’s education during his tenure as superintendent. I believe that his transition into being NASBE’s CEO only opens more opportunities for there to be meaningful change in how educational organizations operate.
It’s unclear if this change was successful or has had much impact as of yet. Primarily due to the fact the change is still relatively recent, with DeMaria acting in position in January of 2022.
