A person who agrees with the dissenting opinion in this case would most
support which conclusion?
A. The First Amendment applies only to adults, not to schoolchildren.
B. The Court has a duty to protect students' right to free speech.
C. Students create major social problems by abusing their civil
liberties.
D. The state should play an expanded role in regulating students'
behavior?
The answer is: B. The Court has a duty to protect students' right to free speech.
The key part of the excerpt is that "Official censorship of student speech on the ground that it addresses 'potentially sensitive topics' is...impermissible." This indicates that the author believes students should have freedom of speech, even to discuss topics that some may find sensitive.
The options A, C and D suggest giving more authority to the state or restricting students' civil liberties. Only option B is aligned with the belief expressed in the excerpt that students have a right to free speech that the Court has a duty to protect.
Therefore, a person who agrees with this dissenting opinion would most support conclusion B: The Court has a duty to protect students' right to free speech.
The person who agrees with the dissenting opinion in this case would most likely support the conclusion that the Court has a duty to protect students' right to free speech (option B).
The state in regulating students' behavior, contradicts the idea that official censorship and stifling of student speech is impermissible.
The excerpt highlights the importance of the state educator's mandate to teach moral and political values, but it also emphasizes that this mandate does not grant the authority to act as "thought police" and stifle discussions on non-state-approved topics.
Furthermore, it argues against official censorship of student speech related to "potentially sensitive topics."
The dissenting opinion would likely argue that the First Amendment applies to schoolchildren and that they should not be stripped of their right to free speech within the school environment.
They would advocate for the Court's responsibility to protect students' right to express their opinions and engage in discussions, even if those discussions touch upon sensitive or controversial topics.
Option C, suggesting that students create major social problems by abusing their civil liberties, is not supported by the excerpt. It does not address the behavior or actions of students but focuses on the limitations of the state educator's authority.
A person who agrees with the dissenting opinion in this case would most likely support the conclusion that the Court has a duty to protect students' right to free speech.

Can someone please help me, ASAP! The answers have to be 1-3 paragraphs long, and they all have to be correct! No wrong answer. This is for a Social Work Class!
Topic: International Social Work
1. The United States has a reputation in some parts of the world for thinking they know how every society should be, and trying to impose those beliefs upon others. Do you think this reputation is accurate? Is there anything the United States can do to change it? Where does social work come into the equation?
2. Other than missing loved ones back home, what do you think would be the most challenging aspect of taking on an international social work job that required you to spend long stretches of time in other countries? Perhaps not having instant connectivity? Building relationships with people from different cultures? Something else?
3. With all the serious problems in America, why is it important or even necessary for social workers in our country to have an international focus? How can working on issues abroad still make a difference for people in America? Does it matter?
Answer: 1.The United States has been accused of imposing their beliefs and values upon other societies, particularly in terms of social and political issues. This reputation has been fueled by the country's history of interventionism and military involvement in other countries. While the United States does have a responsibility to promote human rights and social justice, it is important to do so in a culturally sensitive and respectful manner.
Social workers can play a vital role in bridging the gap between different cultures and promoting understanding and respect. By focusing on collaboration and partnership rather than domination and control, social workers can help the United States to change this reputation and to promote a more inclusive and equitable world.
2.Taking on an international social work job can be challenging in many ways. One of the most difficult aspects of the job is likely to be adapting to a new culture and building relationships with people from different backgrounds. This can be a slow and challenging process, requiring patience, empathy, and an open mind.
Another challenge is likely to be the lack of connectivity, especially if working in a remote or isolated location. However, this can also be an opportunity to disconnect from technology and to develop a deeper connection with the people and communities being served. Other challenges may include language barriers, different laws and regulations, and different ethical codes and cultural norms.
3.While there are many serious problems in America that require attention and resources, it is important for social workers to have an international focus. Many of the problems facing America, such as poverty, inequality, and environmental degradation, are global in nature and require international cooperation and collaboration to solve. By working on these issues abroad, social workers can gain a deeper understanding of the root causes of these problems and can develop more effective strategies for addressing them.
Additionally, working internationally can provide opportunities for cultural exchange and learning, which can enrich social work practice and improve outcomes for clients in America. Ultimately, social work is a global profession that requires a global perspective in order to promote social justice and human rights for all people, regardless of their location or nationality.

Please note: This Journal requires you to reflect on your use of language prior to writing your reflection.
The ability to choose and use words that enhance our communication is one of the keys to becoming a competent communicator. Language – also known as “verbal communication” – can be spoken or written, but language always involves words. Words are actually signs or symbols for ideas, and whether you speak Cree or English or Tagalog, words are combined to form messages. Sign language, used by deaf and hearing-impaired people to communicate, is also language. More than 100 distinct sign languages, such as American Sign Language, are used around the world.
In this Discovery Journal, you are being asked to monitor and keep track of how language is used for three (3) days. This includes both your choice and use of words, as well as the words being spoken and used by other people.
During this period, focus on the following aspects of language use:
1. Simple versus Complex Words
Words need to be clear and easy to understand. The use of overly complex words, professional jargon and technical words tend to block and inhibit communication. This is especially true during times of stress, illness or conflict.
“Use of unfamiliar terminology without explanation inhibits the ability of the receiver to understand or respond to what is said in a timely manner. The listener can get lost in trying to understand the words used, rather than focusing on what the message is and its intent” (Sieh and Brentin, 1997, p. 4).
Both the speaker and the listener need to be comfortable with the words being used.
2. Abstract versus Behavioural Language
Abstract language is vague and unclear, and its use can lead to miscommunication. When you replace abstract language with behavioural language, defined as language which describes specific things people say or do, communication is often enhanced.
To further learn about behavioural language, read “Abstraction” (pp. 118 – 119 of the 3rd edition; pp. 123 – 124 of the 4th edition) in Chapter 5 of LOOK.
3. Emotive language
Emotive language, in which one’s attitude or opinion is presented through the choice of words, can also lead to communication problems. In particular, the use of subtle, negative assessments and judgements can cause other people to become defensive.
Emotive language can be replaced with behavioural language, which focuses on neutral, objective descriptions. Neutral, behavioural language is less likely to cause conflict or stress, especially when discussing sensitive issues.
To further learn about emotive language, read “Emotive Language” (p. 127 – 128 of the 3rd edition; p. 133 of the 4th edition) in Chapter 5 of LOOK.
4. You Language versus I Language
You Language is judgemental. It points the finger at the other person, identifying his or her faults (as you see them). The typical response to You Language is defensiveness, which shuts down communication.
I Language is an alternative approach which can often lead to better outcomes. When I Language is used, the speaker focuses on himself or herself, identifying his/her situation, needs and feelings. I Language also uses behavioural language to neutrally describe the other person’s behaviour and the situation.
Review the differences between You Language and I Language in LOOK (pp. 129 – 131 in the 3rd edition; pp. 135 – 136 in the 4th edition).
QUESTIONS:
During your observation period, note any examples of overly complex language, abstract language, emotive language or You Language. These notes are for you only, to learn through observation. Please DO NOT include these notes with your assignment.
Reflect on your experiences, and choose one or two examples to share in your journal assignment.
What happened? How did the choice of words contribute to a problem between the communicators? Finally, how could the situation have been handled better? What language could have been used instead, possibly resulting in a better outcome?
Minimum word count: 200 words
A language is a system of written and spoken signs that people in a country or region use to write and speak to one another. It functions as a tool for communication.
How could the words you chose affect how you speak? The intended meaning is not communicated when the incorrect phrase is used. Confusion among the audience is brought on by poor word choice. It could occasionally make things challenging and unclear. Occasionally, a misspelled word won't mean anything.
How important is language selection for effective communication? One of language's primary goals is to promote "homophily," or a sense of shared experience with its audience. It can be difficult to understand the message when the writer uses a language that the reader does not understand since it tends to emphasize the differences between the writer and reader.
Day 1
During today's observation, I noticed that I frequently use abstract language when I talk with other people. I once gave my opinion on a project when a coworker asked what I thought of it, saying that it lacked "clarity" and "cohesiveness." I admitted that I could have been more explicit and gave specific examples to support my claims.
Later that day, I overheard someone speaking to someone else in a dialogue utilizing a lot of you-language. "You continuously do this and you never listen to me," they kept saying. I could tell that the other person was becoming irritated and outraged over this. I think the speaker may have handled this situation better if they had used more I Language and concentrated on how they were feeling and what they needed rather than continually criticizing the other person's actions.
Day 2
I made a deliberate effort to utilize more simple language when conversing with individuals today. I found that people liked the conversations I was having with them and that I could express my ideas and opinions more clearly. But I did hear a conversation where one person was trying to force the other person into doing something by using harsh words. Their frequent use of dramatic language and exaggerated assertions seemed to have little impact other than to ratchet up the tension.
Day 3
During my final period of observation, I thought about how I might put all I had learned over the previous two days to work. Even though it was often challenging for me to alter my natural language patterns, the outcomes were better when I was able to talk more succinctly and clearly. I have heard someone use highly obscure lingo in a talk in an effort to impress others.
In my opinion, language use may always be improved, especially in light of the prior three days. We might be able to communicate with others more effectively and create deeper connections if we are more conscious of the language we use.
