Answer 1

The correct answer is a). Most companies implement affirmative action programs. The following explains why minority groups are underrepresented in management roles. The majority of businesses use affirmative action policies.

Affirmative action's goal is to build a workforce that accurately reflects the demographics of the competent workforce that is available in the relevant labor market. It does this through establishing fair access to employment opportunities.

The rights to courteous service and consumer education.

When legislation was introduced in the 1960s to prevent ongoing discrimination and to provide equal opportunities to all regardless of race, color, religion, sex, or national origin, there was a great deal of past discrimination. Case Study

Chapter 17: International Social Work

In 2009, Abrehem and Amira Al-Lami, along with their 8-year-old son (Jamail) and 6- year-old daughter (Sabeen), worked with the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Agency for International Development to become Iraqi refugees and move and resettle in Chicago, IL. As an Iraqi citizen, Abrehem had worked for the Multinational force and U.S. government in Iraq. Abrehem and his family faced persecution in Iraq as a consequence of their assistance as interpreters/translators to the U.S. government. The resettlement process took about 10 months with Abrehem’s fluency in English being very helpful in completing paperwork. As displaced refugees, the Al-Limi family received assistance with food, shelter, and health care.

In the Chicago area, the Al-Lami family lives in an apartment building inhabited by other refugees (including several Iraqi families) with support provided by area churches and international relief agencies. Abrehem and Amira have maintained limited contact with a few U.S. government officials and military subcontractors from Iraq. Outside of their apartment building and friendships acquired in Iraq, establishing new relationships and sources of social support has been challenging. Attendance at a local mosque has been helpful. However, upon learning the Al-Lamis’ country of origin, many everyday Americans show an initial resistance to relationship building. Abrehem and Amira and their children struggle with social relationships, employment, transportation, addressing everyday needs, acceptance by others, and a general sense of “fitting in.” With their social worker from a Lutheran social service agency, the Al-Lami family are exploring school-based services for their children and ways to connect with other refugee families to advocate for additional social and economic opportunities for people displaced from Iraq.

3. It is possible in some cities for refugees or immigrants to live among people who come from the same place, perhaps never even having to speak English to get by day to day. Do you think this is the best option for them, or should they at least somewhat learn to assimilate? Explain.

Answers

According to the information, the correct answer would be: Yes, there are many countries from which a refugee may come to the United States and find others reluctant or unsure how to interact with them.

1. Are there any other countries in which a refugee may come to the United States and find others reluctant or somehow unsure how to interact with them?

Yes, there are many countries from which a refugee may come to the United States and find others reluctant or unsure how to interact with them. For example, refugees from countries like Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia, or Yemen may face challenges in establishing relationships with Americans due to cultural, linguistic, and religious differences.

Are there any countries of origin or nationalities which could make it difficult for you to work with a client, or perhaps a bit uncomfortable at first?

It is possible that a social worker may find it difficult or uncomfortable to work with a client from a country that has a history of conflict with the United States or where there is a significant cultural or religious difference. This discomfort may stem from personal biases or stereotypes that a social worker may hold. It is important to recognize these biases and work to overcome them to provide effective services to clients.

It is possible in some cities for refugees or immigrants to live among people who come from the same place, perhaps never even having to speak English to get by day to day?

While it may be easier for refugees or immigrants to live among people from the same place and not have to learn English, it is not necessarily the best option for them. Learning English and assimilating to American culture can help refugees and immigrants access better economic and educational opportunities, establish social connections, and feel more integrated into society. However, it is important to recognize that assimilation does not mean giving up one's cultural identity or heritage, but rather finding a balance between maintaining cultural roots and embracing a new culture.

The central premise of this chapter is that the education system in Sub-Saharan
Africa (SSA) whereby primary schooling children are organised as one grade to
be taught in one class by one teacher is a legacy of colonial education that failed to
meet the expectations of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) on education
for all (EFA) and not suited to the current supply and demand conditions for primary
education in Africa. This system is what is commonly referred to as monograde
teaching (Little, 2007) and was introduced in SSA by the Western missionaries. The
monograde strategy of teaching groups children according to chronological age into
different learning stages and each stage is taught by one teacher in a class of its
own. This has proved a problem in SSA where the education structures and policies
adopted were borrowed from western countries such as England, France, Portugal
and Italy. Such approaches to structure and policies in education have tended to
exhibit a propensity to be contradictory, and have not achieved the desired results,
particularly with regard to achieving MDG # 2, of providing universal primary EFA
by 2015 as was expected.
It is my contention that monograde teaching is unsuited to most educational
contexts in SSA, especially in the rural and remote areas where it is simply not
possible to provide a teacher for every thirty students or so in one classroom, either
because there is a shortage of teachers, or insufficient classrooms, or not enough
students of one age bracket to comprise a class of their own. For this reason, it would
appear that reliance on monograde teaching cannot provide a long term solution to
the provision of EFA for primary schooling in SSA. Therefore, it is not a sustainable
model, particularly when you consider the globalisation effects of colonialism. The
chapter presents a historical review of the nature of education and globalisation
in Africa through three epochs identified as the colonial globalisation epoch,
followed by the postcolonial globalisation epoch and then the digital age colonial
globalisation epoch. Current supply and demand problems in African education are
then discussed leading to the conclusion that a new paradigm is needed to afford SSA
a better chance to provide EFA for primary schooling. The chapter concludes that
SSA school systems need a type of African education that focuses on a deliberate
effort to perpetuate and reinforce social solidarity and homogeneity that engenders
critical thinking and problem solving, collaboration, creativity and innovation, and

FA- Newton's Laws Assessment (R)

Answers

An assessment of Newton's Laws evaluates an individual's comprehension, application, and problem-solving skills related to these principles.

Newton's Laws of Motion are fundamental principles in classical physics that describe the relationship between an object and the forces acting upon it. They provide a framework for understanding and predicting the motion of objects. The assessment of these laws typically involves evaluating an individual's understanding and application of the concepts and principles associated with Newton's Laws.

Assessing Newton's Laws can involve various components. One aspect of the assessment may involve identifying and stating Newton's three laws, understanding their principles, and explaining their applications in real-world scenarios. This could include examples such as the relationship between force, mass, and acceleration (Newton's Second Law) or the concept of equal and opposite reactions (Newton's Third Law).

In addition to theoretical knowledge, the assessment may require problem-solving skills. This could involve analyzing situations and applying Newton's Laws to calculate unknown quantities, such as forces, masses, or accelerations. Problem-solving questions may involve scenarios like objects on inclined planes, collisions, or systems of interacting bodies.

The assessment could also include demonstrations or practical experiments that test the understanding of Newton's Laws through observations and measurements. This might involve activities like measuring forces using spring scales or analyzing the motion of objects in controlled experiments.

Discuss four challenges that people in informal jobs may experience

Here are four common challenges experienced by individuals working in the informal sector:

Lack of Social Protection: One major challenge for those in informal jobs is the absence of social protection mechanisms. Many informal workers cannot access formal social security benefits, such as healthcare, retirement plans, unemployment benefits, or disability insurance. This problem exposes them to economic shocks, health emergencies, and other unforeseen circumstances.

Limited Job Security and Income Instability: Informal workers often face risky employment conditions, with irregular income streams and little security. They may secure seasonal or temporary work, or rely on day-to-day or piece-rate earnings. This undermines their ability to plan for the future, secure loans or credit, and meet basic needs consistently.

Limited Access to Rights and Services: Informal workers may struggle to access their basic rights and services. They often operate outside the formal legal framework, which can result in exploitation, lack of legal protections, and inadequate working conditions. They may face challenges in enforcing labor rights, accessing healthcare, education, and other essential services. Discrimination, harassment, and unsafe working environments are also common concerns.

Limited Skills Development and Upward Mobility: Informal work often restricts opportunities for skills development and upward mobility. Many informal jobs require low levels of education and skill specialization, limiting prospects for career advancement and higher wages. Informal workers may face barriers in accessing training, education, and skill-building programs that could improve their qualifications and income potential

Why was 'Arabian Nights' such an important thing in the Golden Age of Islam?

Answers

Answer:

The Islamic Golden Age refers to a period in the history of Islam, traditionally dated from the 8th century to the 13th century, during which much of the historically Islamic world was ruled by various caliphates and science, economic development, and cultural works flourished. This period is traditionally understood to have begun during the reign of the Abbasid caliph Harun al-Rashid (786–809) with the inauguration of the House of Wisdom in Baghdad, where scholars from various parts of the world with different cultural backgrounds were mandated to gather and translate all of the world’s classical knowledge into the Arabic language.

The end of the age is variously given as 1258 with the Mongolian Sack of Baghdad, or 1492 with the completion of the Christian Reconquista of the Emirate of Granada in Al-Andalus, Iberian Peninsula. During the Golden Age, the major Islamic capital cities of Baghdad, Cairo, and Córdoba became the main intellectual centers for science, philosophy, medicine, and education. The government heavily patronized scholars, and the best scholars and notable translators, such as Hunayn ibn Ishaq, had salaries estimated to be the equivalent of those of professional athletes today. With the introduction of paper, information was democratized and it became possible to make a living from simply writing and selling books. The use of paper spread from China into Muslim regions in the 8th century, and then to Spain (and then the rest of Europe) in the 10th century. Paper was easier to manufacture than parchment and less likely to crack than papyrus, and could absorb ink, making it difficult to erase and ideal for keeping records. Islamic paper makers devised assembly-line methods of hand-copying manuscripts to turn out editions far larger than any available in Europe for centuries. The best known fiction from the Islamic world is The Book of One Thousand and One Nights, which took form in the 10th century and reached its final form by the 14th century, although the number and type of tales vary.

The School of Nisibis and later the School of Edessa became centers of learning and transmission of classical wisdom. The House of Wisdom was a library, translation institute, and academy, and the Library of Alexandria and the Imperial Library of Constantinople housed new works of literature. Nestorian Christians played an important role in the formation of Arab culture, with the Jundishapur hospital and medical academy prominent in the late Sassanid, Umayyad, and early Abbasid periods. Notably, eight generations of the Nestorian Bukhtishu family served as private doctors to caliphs and sultans between the 8th and 11th centuries.

The introduction of paper in the 10th century enabled Islamic scholars to easily write manuscripts, including The Book of One Thousand and One Nights. Arab scholars also saved classic works of antiquity by translating them into various languages.

Christians (particularly Nestorian Christians) contributed to the Arab Islamic civilization during the Ummayad and the Abbasid periods by translating works of Greek philosophers to Syriac and then to Arabic. During the 4th through the 7th centuries, scholarly work in the Syriac and Greek languages was either newly initiated or carried on from the Hellenistic period. Many classic works of antiquity might have been lost if Arab scholars had not translated them into Arabic and Persian and later into Turkish, Hebrew, and Latin. Islamic scholars also absorbed ideas from China and India, and in turn Arabic philosophic literature contributed to the development of modern European philosophy.Rushd, also known by his Latinized name Averroës (April 14, 1126–December 10, 1198), was an Al-Andalus Muslim polymath, a master of Aristotelian philosophy, Islamic philosophy, Islamic theology, Maliki law and jurisprudence, logic, psychology, politics, Andalusian classical music theory, medicine, astronomy, geography, mathematics, physics, and celestial mechanics. 4. Your father is in a really bad mood and tells you and your brother that he's going to have to cut back
on spending for the next few months. He also says that you won't be taking your annual summer
family vacation. When you ask him what's going on, he tells you that he just filed his taxes and owes
a lot of money.

Is this a local, state, or federal issue?

Answers

Based on the information given, it sounds like a federal issue. Federal taxes are collected by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and owed by individuals and businesses to the federal government.

If the father owes a lot of money, it is likely related to his federal income tax liability. However, it is also possible that he owes state or local taxes in addition to his federal taxes, depending on where he lives and works. When individuals earn income in the United States, they are required to pay taxes on that income to both the federal government and their state of residence (if their state has an income tax). The federal government collects income taxes through the  Internal Revenue Service (IRS), while state governments collect taxes through their respective departments of revenue or taxation. It's possible that the father in this scenario owes taxes at both the federal and state levels, but based on the information provided, it seems most likely that his financial troubles are related to his federal taxes. The father may have miscalculated how much he owed in taxes throughout the year, resulting in a large tax bill when he filed his tax return. Alternatively, he may have had a change in his financial situation, such as a new job or significant increase in income, that resulted in a higher tax liability.

It erodes purchasing power, disrupts economic planning, distorts economic signals, and undermines confidence in the currency.

Typically, high inflation is a sign of an overheating economy or an increase in the general level of prices in an economy over time. Inflation occurs when there is an imbalance between the supply and demand of goods and services, leading to a sustained rise in prices. It is important to note that moderate inflation is generally considered healthy for an economy as it indicates a growing and dynamic market. However, high inflation can have negative consequences for individuals, businesses, and the overall economy.

One of the primary causes of high inflation is excessive money supply growth. When the central bank or government increases the money supply through measures like printing more currency or lowering interest rates, it can lead to an excess of money in circulation. This excess liquidity fuels demand for goods and services, which drives up prices. Additionally, high inflation can also be triggered by factors such as rising production costs, increasing wages, supply chain disruptions, or a depreciating currency.

High inflation can have several adverse effects on an economy. It erodes the purchasing power of individuals and reduces their standard of living. Fixed-income earners, such as retirees or those on fixed salaries, are particularly vulnerable to the negative impact of high inflation as their income does not keep pace with rising prices. Businesses also face challenges in planning and budgeting due to the uncertainty created by inflation, making it difficult to make long-term investment decisions.

Furthermore, high inflation can distort economic signals and hinder efficient resource allocation. It creates uncertainty, discourages savings, and encourages speculative activities. It can also lead to a loss of confidence in the currency, resulting in capital flight and a decline in foreign investment.

Explain by giving examples and evidence from the article.Scientists around the world who study Earths atmosphere have discovered something dramatic and alarming: an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide in our atmosphere. They are finding that the increase in carbon dioxide in our atmosphere may have worldwide effects on our climate and our oceans, which can threaten life all over the planet.Where is the carbon that makes up all that carbon dioxide coming from? Carbon is an element that makes up a lot of the matter on Earth. New carbon cant be created, so the extra carbon in our atmosphere had to come from somewhereit must have decreased in some other part of the Earth system. But where? Humans put carbon into the atmosphere when we burn fuels like coal, oil, and gas that are found deep underground. These are called fossil fuels. These fossil fuels make the modern human lifestyle possible. Most of the time, when we use a cell phone, drive a car, heat our homes, or turn on the lights, we are using energy that comes from burning fossil fuels. We currently depend on these fuels to power our lives, but burning them releases large amounts of carbon dioxide into the airand that increase in carbon dioxide might jeopardize life as we know it.Fossil FuelsCoal, oil, and gas are called fossil fuels for a reason: they are the carbon-rich matter left behind by plants and animals that died millions of years ago. These plants and animals were buried deep underground before they could decompose, so decomposers never broke down the dead matter. Over millions of years, the remains of the plants and animals turned into carbon-rich fossil fuelscoal, oil, and gas. The carbon that was in the plants and animals when they died is still there; its just part of the fossil fuels. When we burn fossil fuels in cars, factories, or power plants, carbon that has been stored in the ground for millions of years is released into the air as carbon dioxide. An illustration of ancient organisms.Fossil fuels are the remains of animals and plants that died millions of years ago and were buried before they could decompose. The Carbon CycleEarth is a closed ecosystem.Earth is a closed ecosystem. There are many different regional ecosystems on Earth, but they all share one atmosphere and one ocean. Very little matter escapes from Earth into space, and almost none enters. Since almost no carbon enters or leaves Earths system, and carbon isnt being produced or used up, the amount of carbon in the system does not change. If carbon is increasing in one part of Earths system, it must be decreasing somewhere else.Although carbon rarely leaves Earths system, carbon moves in a cycle within Earths ecosystem. This cycle is powered by energy. Carbon cycles from biotic matter to abiotic matter and back again. This means that carbon spends time in the air, in the ocean, in the soil, and in organisms as it moves continuously through the ecosystem. Powered by energy from sunlight, photosynthesis moves carbon from the air and water into living things. At the same time, cellular respiration moves carbon from living things to the air and water. This continuous, consistent pattern of movement is called the carbon cycle, and it is essential to the survival of life on Earth. However, human activities are altering the way carbon moves through the global ecosystem.A diagram depicting the carbon cycle. The Carbon Cycle: The arrows in this diagram show the pathways that carbon follows as it moves around the ecosystem. The black arrows show the pathways that exist naturally in the ecosystem. The large red arrow shows how humans can increase the amount of carbon in the atmosphere by burning dead matter like fossil fuels. As people around the world burn more and more fossil fuels, a great deal of carbon from deep underground is moving into the atmosphere. Carbon in one part of the system (abiotic matter) is increasing, and as a result, carbon in another part of the system is decreasingin this case, biotic matter, which includes dead matter. Since the entire Earth shares the same atmosphere, changes in levels of carbon dioxide affect ecosystems all over the planet. All the extra carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is having many negative effects on the global ecosystem, and especially on the climate of our planet. Adding carbon dioxide to the atmosphere changes climate and weather patterns around the globe in ways that make it harder for many organisms to survive. Increased carbon dioxide causes global temperatures to rise, makes ocean water more acidic, and changes weather patterns. These changes may increase the chances of extreme weather events like hurricanes and droughts, which affect humans directly as well as the ecosystems and farms we depend on. By increasing the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, we are gambling with our very way of life.
