Assume that the quantity put in each bag follows the continuous uniform distribution with low and high filling weights of 13. 4 pounds and 15. 9 pounds, respectively. A. Calculate the expected value and the standard deviation of this distribution. (Do not round intermediate calculations. Round your "Expected value" to 2 decimal places and "Standard deviation" answer to 4 decimal places. ) b. Find the probability that the weight of a randomly selected bag is no more than 14. 6 pounds. (Round your answer to 2 decimal places. ) c. Find the probability that the weight of a randomly selected bag is at least 14. 1 pounds. (Round your answer to 4 decimal places. )

Answers

The expected value and the standard deviation of this distribution is explained below.

So, here, Let X =  the quantity of soil which is put in each bag.

The random variable X tends to follow a Uniform distribution.

Whereas, the range of the values of X are, [8.1, 13.1].

And the probability density function of X is:

fx(x) = 1/2 (a+b) = 8.1+13.1 / 2

=10.6

Then, Compute the expected value of X as follows:

E(X) = 1/2(a + b) = 8.1+13.1 / 2

=10.6

Thus, the expected value of X is 10.60.

Now we will compute the standard deviation of X as follows:

\(SD(X) = \sqrt{1/2 (b-a)^{2} } = \frac{5}{12}^{2} \\= 1.4434\)

Thus, the standard deviation of X is 1.4434.

Participative leadership, also known as democratic leadership, is one in which the leader has the central focus of employee engagement and participation in important company decisions. In this style of leadership, the manager has a crucial role of being the main motivator and advisor of the team, being solicitous to guide, coordinate and assist his subordinates in all their work demands, so that the goals and organizational goals are achieved.

This style of participatory leadership would be more appropriate for this scenario as there are deadlines for completing tasks, which requires a motivated and productive team, which is essential in participatory leadership.

The motivation of employees is achieved due to clear and guiding communication from the leader, which creates the perception of inclusion and appreciation of the employee, who feels an essential and important part of the organization.

The welfare of the market for luxury hotel nights in a tourist city can be maximized by preventing hotels in this market from setting the same price.

Welfare is a measure of the state of economic well-being of individuals, groups, and nations. It is generally measured by looking at people's income, wealth, and standard of living. Welfare economics is a branch of economics that examines the distribution of economic benefits and costs. It seeks to determine whether a given economic system is producing the optimal distribution of goods and services. A market with many buyers and sellers is said to be efficient when there is no wastage or misallocation of resources.

If three 4-star hotels in the market for luxury hotel nights in a touristic city work together to set the same price, it would lead to market inefficiencies such as price rigidity, which would not reflect the true value of the service. This type of agreement is known as a cartel and can lead to market failure. Answers

The equilibrium price (p) is 50 and the equilibrium quantity (x) is approximately 500.

To find the consumers' surplus (CS) and the producers' surplus (PS), we need to determine the equilibrium price and quantity by setting the price-demand equation equal to the price-supply equation and solving for x.

Price-demand equation: p = D(x) = 80 - 0.06x

Price-supply equation: p = S(x) = 20e^(0.001x)

Setting the two equations equal to each other:

80 - 0.06x = 20e^(0.001x)

To solve this equation, we can use numerical methods or approximation techniques. Let's assume that the equilibrium quantity is x ≈ 500 (rounded to the nearest integer).

Plugging x = 500 into the price-demand equation:

p = 80 - 0.06(500) = 50

Plugging x = 500 into the price-supply equation:

p = 20e^(0.001(500)) ≈ 50

Therefore, the equilibrium price (p) is 50 and the equilibrium quantity (x) is approximately 500.

Now let's calculate the consumers' surplus and producers' surplus.

1) Consumers' Surplus (CS):

To find the consumers' surplus, we need to calculate the area under the demand curve (D(x)) above the equilibrium price (50) up to the quantity sold (500).

CS = 0.5 * (80 - 50) * 500 = 0.5 * 30 * 500 = 7,500

The consumers' surplus is 7,500 (rounded to the nearest integer).

2) Producers' Surplus (PS):

To find the producers' surplus, we need to calculate the area above the supply curve (S(x)) below the equilibrium price (50) up to the quantity sold (500).

PS = 0.5 * (50 - 20) * 500 = 0.5 * 30 * 500 = 7,500

The producers' surplus is 7,500 (rounded to the nearest integer).

Please note that without more specific information about the range of values for x and the context of the problem, the approximation for the equilibrium quantity may not be precise. However, based on the given information, this is the estimated calculation for consumers' surplus and producers' surplus at the equilibrium price level.

Answers

In a study to ascertain whether a charging station is required in a community, 73% of all inhabitants supported the construction of the charging station. The probability that exactly 8 of them favor the building of the charging substation is 0.2279.

We have to find the probability of exactly 8 people in the sample of 14 people who favor building the charging station. The given probability is a binomial distribution problem where,

n = 14 (number of trials)p = 0.73 (probability of success)

favour = 8 (number of favorable outcomes)

The probability of exactly k successes in n independent Bernoulli trials is given by the formula:

P(k) = nCk * pk * (1-p)n-k

Where nCk is the binomial coefficient.

In this case, the probability of exactly 8 of them favor building the charging substation is:

P(8) = 14C8 * (0.73)8 * (1-0.73)14-8= 3003 * 0.73^8 * 0.27^6≈ 0.2279

Therefore, the probability that exactly 8 of them favor the building of the charging substation is approximately 0.2279.
