Let's take a look at the definition of a Dystopian. A Dystopian story line is one that relates or denotes to a society or state (imagined) where there are great sufferings and injustices. One example of a Dystopian I loved in middle school is the Lunar Chronicles, so if you want to read up on some Dystopian books, that is a great series to read.
I will not be reading the first chapter of the Hunger Games, but I can help you connect general ideas of the book with the idea of a Dystopian storyline. What are some social issues/ great injustices you can see early in the book?
- There is a seperation of a nation that once was united, the 13 districts.
- A game takes place where one teenager from each district has to kill other teenagers to live and provide for their family and district (injustice).
-In the community of district 12, (where Katniss is) you hear a lot of descriptive words relating to poverty, maltreatment, and overall negative people.
-Social hierarchy. Disctrict 1 (the Capital) lives in luxury while the rest of the districts do not.
-District 13 was destroyed because it revolted against the Capital.
