Answers

Answer 1

The parallelism emphasizes the speaker's Irish nationality. Therefore, the correct option is A.

What was the importance of the parallelism?

The parallelism draws attention to the speaker's Irish heritage. W. B. Yeats is credited as the poet. The poet's experiences during World War One served as the inspiration for this poem. The poet used the word "parallelism" to convey the troops' intense emotions.

The poem focuses on how soldiers experience war; they mostly worry about their homes and families. He is referring to a location in Western Ireland. The poem is all about the poet's love for his country, his people, and the warriors that defend it.

This poem explores the emotions and thoughts of an Irish soldier fighting in World War I. During a battle, soldiers frequently consider their home and country. He refers to a location in Western Ireland when he says "My nation is Kiltartan Cross" and "My people Kiltartan's impoverished."

Therefore, the parallelism emphasizes the speaker's Irish nationality.

1. The old man sat in his chair. He wasn’t very happy because he was lonely. He had been a soldier once but now he was nothing. He sat in his chair and was sad.

2. Gazing out of the window, tears glistening in his eyes, the old man reflected upon a life well lived. The sun had begun to dip below the horizon, touching the darkening blue here and there with flashes of soft pink and deep scarlet.

Answers

In the first paragraph, it is possible to perceive the idea of sadness for the loss of youth. In the second paragraph, we can have ideas of conformation through old age and the arrival of death.

How can these ideas be identified? The first paragraph shows how sad the old man is with his current situation. The first paragraph shows the old man remembering how he has changed. The second paragraph shows the old man recognizing that he had a good life. The second paragraph shows how the old man is at the end of his life.

The two paragraphs establish the sadness of the end of youth, the conformation of old age, and the approach to the end of life. This can be seen when the old man remembers that he was a soldier when he was young, but that he can't be anymore as his body can't take it anymore.

Also, he has no one around, which shows how lonely and uncomfortable old age is.

The old man then conforms, for he had a good life as a young man and was able to enjoy it as he wanted.

The arrival of death is highlighted in the line "the sun had begun to dip below the horizon" which symbolizes the end, the conclusion of everything, even life.

My friend had concluded that if he took his language and culture out of his poetry, he stood a better chance of

his poetry, which is to say he took the soul out of his poetry.
At a neighborhood fair in Texas, somewhere between the German Oom-pah Sausage Stand and the Mexican

Answers

The structural element used in the excerpt by Anaya but not in the excerpt by Nye is the anecdote. An anecdote is a brief and often personal story or account that is used to illustrate a point or convey a message.

The correct answer would be an anecdote.

In the given excerpt by Anaya, the anecdote tells the story of a young man at a neighborhood fair expressing his longing for a heritage. This anecdote serves to evoke an emotional response from the reader and highlight the theme of cultural identity and belonging.

On the other hand, the excerpt by Nye does not include an anecdote. Instead, it focuses on the personal reflection and decision-making process of the friend who removes elements of his language and culture from his poetry. Nye's excerpt relies more on introspection and the expression of ideas rather than using a specific anecdote to support the message.

By employing an anecdote, Anaya brings a relatable and tangible example into the narrative, allowing readers to connect emotionally with the young man's desire for heritage. This storytelling technique adds depth and emotional resonance to the excerpt.

Which two subjects would be most suitable for a compare-and-contrast essay?

A. postcards and conversation

C. texting and answering machines

Answers

Answer:

B. texting and email communication

Explanation:

Compare and contrast essays should have topics that are somehow in the same category. In this case, the answer choices are looking for 2 topics that have the same purpose. Both texting and emailing are used to respond to a person. They are forms of communication that allow a person to communicate their ideas. However, they are still not the same thing entirely so they can be contrasted.

Postcards and conversations are not meant for the same reasons. They cannot be compared because they are not made for the same thing. Postcards are not made to convey long ideas for share in-depth information like conversations. Additionally, texting and answering machines are different because answering machines take information when texting is not available. So they cannot be compared because they were not made to replace each other or be used instead of the other.

In sentence 1, there is no use of the comma, whereas sentences 2 and 3 both contain commas after the word "ever", which is not necessary. The sentence is free-flowing and presents a simple fact about Jesse Owens. Moreover, it contains one independent clause and so the use of a comma is unnecessary.

Discuss TWO literary techniques used within the excerpt (e.g. imagery, diction, symbolism, foreshadowing, and so on), explaining how they contribute to the excerpt's meaning and effectiveness

Soon the men began to gather, surveying their own children, speaking of planting and rain, tractors and taxes. They stood together, away from the pile of stones in the corner, and their jokes were quiet and they smiled rather than laughed. The women, wearing faded house dresses and sweaters, came shortly after their menfolk. They greeted one another and exchanged bits of gossip as they went to join their husbands. Soon the women, standing by their husbands, began to call to their children, and the children came reluctantly, having to be called four or five times. Bobby Martin ducked under his mother's grasping hand and ran, laughing, back to the pile of stones. His father spoke up sharply, and Bobby came quickly and took his place between his father and his oldest brother.

Answers

Two literary devices that may be recognized in the passage are imagery and symbolism.

Imagery: The author utilizes vivid images to describe the setting and give readers a sensory experience. A picture of the group is created, for instance, by the description of the guys standing together, away from the stone pile, while discussing planting, rain, tractors, and taxes.

Symbolism: The corner pile of stones in the passage has a symbolic significance. Although the stones' function isn't made clear in the narrative, they stand for an important custom or ritual that the society practices.

I remember when my mom told me how she always carried me when I was a little baby and every time she told me it was like I was there that night she had me. Now when I think of that I just remember what I had lost; my mother. She was always there for me, but that night when she just had to go and save a family from a fire then I thought she was not coming back and that was when I knew that my whole life was about to be turned upside down. It has been two years since she has been gone and I have moved on, but I still visit her every day. I miss her every day and even though my dad has barely looked me in the eye ever since my mom died. I have tried to stay strong because if he saw me cry then he would just push me away more. I once heard him talk to someone on the phone saying I was just a reminder of losing my mom, so I also tried to keep my distance from him. I was fifteen already and I walked to school every day, but today when I was passing the oak park I thought I saw my mom, but when I blinked again she was gone. I thought it was normal but then I kept seeing her everywhere and then when I tried to make eye contact with her to see if it was her, she would just disappear.

What happens next:

She starts to see her mom a lot more and then one day she keeps a very close eye on her and follows her. She finds out that her mom is actually alive and then her mom tells her/him that she had to fake her death because she had gotten into some problems with some very bad people. Next, the mom tells her she has to leave and the girl/boy is upset and disappointed at the mom. She/he then decideds to help the mom stop these bad people so the mom can come back and have a normal life again. He/she figures that it is not that easy to stop some bad guys but then he/she accidentally hears something he/she can use against the bad guys. They use it against them and they promise not to hurt the mom. Just when they are about to leave the bad guys the police come in and arrest the bad people but also the mom. The police tell him/her that the mom has stolen some expensive thing but the mom explains how she was forced to do it, so they let her go but she still has to pay/return the things she stole. The dad is surprised to see the mom again but is happy. They move to somewhere else so they can start all over for a fresh start but the son/daughter tells the mom it is going to be a bit of a time for her/him to earn her/his trust again.
