Answer 1

Answer:

A

Explanation:

This experiment did not occur in a closed system

Answer 2

The increase in speed was due to the kinetic energy from one cart transferring to the other. Option (c) is correct.

The system's overall momentum is conserved in this collision situation, but the system's kinetic energy may not be. Kinetic energy may be exchanged between the two carts during the collision. In this scenario, the cart moving 3 m/s to the right gets kinetic energy, whereas the cart moving 2 m/s to the left loses kinetic energy.

According to the principle of momentum conservation, the total amount of momentum before and after a collision is equal. Prior to the collision, the carts have identical masses and opposing velocities, thus their momenta cancel each other out. Even though the momentum is preserved after the impact, it is redistributed across the two carts, causing them to move at various speeds.

Hence, the increase in speed was due to the kinetic energy

from one cart transferring to the other. Option (c) is correct.

The distance between the two objects is reduced in half, that will be the changed force of attraction between them is option (E) 2.5 newtons.

According to Newton's law of universal gravitation, the force of attraction between two objects is inversely proportional to the square of the distance between them.

If the distance between Object A and Object B is reduced to half, the force of attraction will increase by a factor of 2² = 4. This means that the new force of attraction will be one-fourth of the original force.

Given that the original force of attraction is 5 newtons, the changed force of attraction between Object A and Object B, when the distance is reduced in half, will be 5 newtons / 4 = 1.25 newtons, which can be rounded to 2.5 newtons.The correct answer is option e.

d. the total energy flow in or out of a system is equal to the sum of the heat transferred to or from the system and the work done by or on the system.
e. in any chemical process the heat flow must equal the change in enthalpy.

Answers

Answer:

a. the amount of work done on a system is dependent of pathway

Explanation:

The first law of thermodynamics states that the change in internal energy of a system equals the net heat transfer into the system minus the net work done by the system.

ΔU = Q - W

Where;

Q, the net heat transfer into the system depends on the pathway

W, the net work done by the system also depends on the pathway

But, ΔU, the change in internal energy is independent of pathway

Therefore, the correct option is "A"

a. the amount of work done on a system is dependent of pathway

A cheetah can maintain its maximum speed of 100 km/hr for 30.0 seconds. What minimum distance must a gazelle running 80.0 km/hr be ahead of the cheetah to escape?

Answers

Explanation:

Suppose the cheetah is initially positioned at x=0 (m) from the reference, and the gazelle is intially at poisiton x=d (m).

Then, at the worst case, that is when cheetah is running at the maximum case, the position of the gazelle relative to the reference must be larger than that of cheetah.

In equation form,

\(0\text{ km}+\frac{100\text{ km}}{1 \text{ hr}}\cdot30\text{ s }\cdot\frac{1\text{ hr}}{3600\text{ s}}\le d \text{ km}+\frac{80\text{ km}}{1 \text{ hr}}\cdot30\text{ s }\cdot\frac{1\text{ hr}}{3600\text{ s}}\)

\((100-80)\cdot \frac{30}{3600}\le d\)

\(d\ge \frac16\text{ km}=166.66 \text{m}\)

The minimum distance that a gazelle running 80.0 km/hr be ahead of the cheetah to escape is 6.5807km

If a cheetah can maintain its maximum speed of 100 km/hr for 30.0 seconds, the distance covered by the cheetah is expressed as:

Distance  = Speed * time

Given the following:

Speed = 100km/hrTime = 30secs = 0.00833333hr

Distance covered = 100 * 0.00833333

Distance covered = 0.0833 km

If gazelle is running at a speed of 80.0km/hr, the distance of gazelle will be expressed as:

Distance of gazelle = 80 * 0.08333Distance covered by gazelle = 6.6664km

Taking the difference in distance = 6.6664km - 0.0833 km =6.5807km

Hence the minimum distance that a gazelle running 80.0 km/hr be ahead of the cheetah to escape is 6.5807km

Answers

Hello,

I hope you and your family are doing well!

To find the angle of the applied force (α), you can rearrange the equation for the net force to solve for α. The equation for the net force is:

F_net = F * cos(α + β) - m * g * sin(β) - u * N

To solve for α, you can start by isolating the term containing α. You can do this by subtracting the other terms from both sides of the equation, which gives you:

F_net - F * cos(β) + m * g * sin(β) + u * N = F * cos(α + β)

Then, you can divide both sides of the equation by F * cos(β) to get:

[F_net - F * cos(β) + m * g * sin(β) + u * N] / (F * cos(β)) = cos(α + β)

Next, you can use the identity cos(a + b) = cos(a)cos(b) - sin(a)sin(b) to rewrite the right side of the equation:

[F_net - F * cos(β) + m * g * sin(β) + u * N] / (F * cos(β)) = cos(α)cos(β) - sin(α)sin(β)

Finally, you can rearrange this equation to solve for α:

α = atan2(sin(α) * cos(β) + cos(α) * sin(β), cos(α) * cos(β) - sin(α) * sin(β))

This equation gives the angle of the applied force (α) in terms of the other variables in the equation for the net force.

How many poles should the synchronous generator have in order to convert 50-Hz power to 60-Hz power

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

From the given information:

The speed of a synchronous motor in relation to its frequency can be represented with the formula:

\(n_{sm}= \dfrac{120f_{se}}{P}\)

where,

the electrical frequency \(f_{se}\) is measured in Hz

the number of poles = P

For us to estimate the number of poles to have 50 Hz - 60 Hz Power, then we need to relate the frequencies of the above equation.

i.e

\(\dfrac{120(50 \ Hz)}{P_1}= \dfrac{120( 60 \Hz)}{P_2} \\ \\ \dfrac{6000 \ Hz}{P_1}= \dfrac{7200 \ Hz}{P_2} \\ \\ \dfrac{P_2}{P_1}=\dfrac{7200}{6000} \\ \\ \\ \dfrac{P_2}{P_1}= \dfrac{12}{10}\)

Thus, we can conclude that 10 poles synchronous motor is attached with 12 poles synchronous generator in order to convert 50 Hz to 60 Hz power.

A grandfather clock pendulum reaches a maximum height of 18
cm each swing. If the mass of the pendulum bob is .85 kg,
what is the maximum potential energy for the pendulum bob?
J

Answers

The maximum potential energy for the pendulum bob is approximately 1.3817 J.

What is Potential Energy ?

Potential energy is a form of energy that an object possesses by virtue of its position, shape, or configuration. It is the energy that an object has due to the work done on it, or that it can do due to its position or state. The potential energy of an object is often associated with the force that acts on it.

The maximum potential energy for the pendulum bob can be calculated using the formula:

Potential energy = mgh

where m is the mass of the pendulum bob, g is the acceleration due to gravity, and h is the maximum height reached by the pendulum.

In this case, the mass of the pendulum bob is 0.85 kg, the maximum height reached by the pendulum is 18 cm or 0.18 m, and the acceleration due to gravity is 9.81 m/s^2. Substituting these values into the formula, we get:

Potential energy = 0.85 kg x 9.81 m/s^2 x 0.18 m

Potential energy = 1.3817 J (rounded to four decimal places)

Therefore, the maximum potential energy for the pendulum bob is approximately 1.3817 J.

Answer:

the total magnetic force on the 2 sides of the wire is 0.30 N

Option a) 0.30 N is the correct answer

Explanation:

Given the data in the question;

both the sides of the right angled triangle is the same and the magnetic is in the plane of the  triangle and is perpendicular to the hypotenuse.

hence, angle between the magnetic field and both the sides of the triangle is 45 degrees.

∅ = 45°

I = 2.0 A

L = 15 cm = 0.15 m

The rate at which the length of the man's shadow increases is dy/dt

We know that the speed is nothing but a rate of change of distance, Thus

        dx/dt = 1.2 m/s

The increase in shadow due to the lamp = the shadow of the man

          5 / (x + y) = 1.8 / y

What is the period of a pendulum that swings 20 times in 25 seconds

Answers

Answer:

We can use the formula for the period of a pendulum:

T = (2 * pi * sqrt(L/g))

where:

T = period (in seconds)

pi = 3.14159...

L = length of the pendulum (in meters)

g = acceleration due to gravity (9.81 m/s^2)

We can solve for L by rearranging the formula:

L = (T^2 * g) / (4 * pi^2)

We are given that the pendulum swings 20 times in 25 seconds. The period of one swing is the time it takes to complete one full cycle, so the period of 20 swings is 25 seconds divided by 20 swings, or 1.25 seconds.

Using this value for T and plugging in g, we get:

L = (1.25^2 * 9.81) / (4 * 3.14159^2)

L ≈ 0.153 meters or 15.3 centimeters

Therefore, the length of the pendulum is approximately 15.3 centimeters.

A car is driving to the right at +20m/s when it brakes with acceleration (to the left) of -4m/s^2. What is its displacement after two seconds?

Answers

Acceleration, velocity and displacement  are vector quantities while speed and distance are scalar quantities.

The average velocity is defined as the ratio of displacement to time

Displacement= 50 meters to the left

Time = 5 seconds

Velocity = 50 meters/5 seconds = 10 m/s to the left

The average speed of the car is 10 m/s. The difference between velocity and speed is that velocity includes direction while speed does not include direction.

Distance traveled = speed × time

Hence the distance traveled is given by;

Distance = 2.5 m/s  ×  5 seconds = 12.5 m

In a DC generator, the generated emf is directly proportional to the

Answers

In a DC generator, the generated electromotive force (emf) is directly proportional to the rotational speed of the generator's armature and the strength of the magnetic field within the generator.

This relationship is described by the equation for the generated emf in a DC generator:

Emf = Φ * N * A * Z / 60

Where:

Emf is the generated electromotive force (in volts),

Φ is the magnetic flux density (in Weber/meter^2\(meter^2\) or Tesla),

N is the number of turns in the armature winding,

A is the effective area of the armature coil (in square meters),

Z is the total number of armature conductors, and

60 is a constant representing the conversion from seconds to minutes.

From this equation, we can see that the generated emf is directly proportional to the magnetic flux density (Φ) and the product of the number of turns (N), effective area (A), and the total number of armature conductors (Z). This means that increasing any of these factors will result in a higher generated emf.

The magnetic flux density (Φ) can be increased by using stronger permanent magnets or increasing the strength of the field windings in the generator.

The number of turns (N) and the effective area (A) are design parameters and can be optimized for a specific generator. Increasing the number of turns or the effective area will result in a higher generated emf.

Similarly, the total number of armature conductors (Z) can be increased to enhance the generated emf.

By controlling and optimizing these factors, the generated emf in a DC generator can be increased, resulting in higher electrical output. However, it is important to note that there are practical limits to these factors based on the design and construction of the generator.

A cannon is recovered from a shipwreck. Why does the buoyant force on the cannon stay the same as long as it is fully under water? Explain your reasoning. (3 points)

Answers

The buoyant force on the cannon stays the same as long as it is fully under water because the buoyant force is determined by the volume of fluid that the cannon displaces and not by the weight or mass of the cannon itself.

Archimedes' Principle states that the buoyant force on an object in a fluid is equal to the weight of the fluid that the object displaces. This means that as long as the cannon remains fully submerged in the water and does not change its volume, the amount of water it displaces and thus the buoyant force on the cannon will also remain the same.

In other words, the buoyant force is dependent on the fluid's density and the volume of the object, not its weight. So, as long as the volume of the cannon and the density of the fluid surrounding it remain constant, the buoyant force will also stay constant.

The buoyant force on the cannon will stay the same as long as it is fully under water.

The buoyant force on an object is equal to the weight of the fluid displaced by the object. The buoyant force is always directed upwards, and it opposes the force of gravity. As long as the cannon is fully under water, the amount of water displaced by the cannon will stay the same. This means that the buoyant force on the cannon will also stay the same.

The buoyant force on an object depends on the density of the fluid, the volume of the object, and the acceleration due to gravity. The density of water is constant, so the buoyant force on the cannon will only change if the volume of the cannon changes or if the acceleration due to gravity changes.

Neither of these factors change. The volume of the cannon does not change as it is being recovered from the shipwreck. The acceleration due to gravity also does not change, as it is the same on Earth's surface as it is underwater.

Answers

Below are the required answers and explanations for each of the scenarios listed.

1. A machine that pulls all thermal energy out of a refrigerated space: This violates the second law of thermodynamics. This is because the second law of thermodynamics states that no heat engine can have an efficiency of 100 percent, and no heat transfer can occur from a colder to a warmer object without external work being done.

2. A machine that can pull 1000J of heat out of a refrigerated space and into a warmer space without external work: This violates the second law of thermodynamics. The second law of thermodynamics states that no heat transfer can occur from a colder to a warmer object without external work being done.

3. A machine that can turn 1000J of heat directly into 1000J of electricity: This does not violate any of the laws of thermodynamics.

4. A machine that can create 1000J of heat from 100J of electricity: This does not violate any of the laws of thermodynamics.

5. A machine that can pull 1000J of heat out of a refrigerated space and put 1500J of heat into a warmer space if it uses 500J of external work: This does not violate any of the laws of thermodynamics.

A car is traveling down a highway. It was moving with a velocity of 50m/s when the driver reads the speed limit and has to decelerate with an acceleration of -5m/s for 2 seconds. What is the momentum of this 500kg car after it decelerates?

Answers

Answer:

20,000 kg m/s

Explanation:

Given:

v₀ = 50 m/s

a = -5 m/s²

t = 2 s

Find: v

v = at + v₀

v = (-5 m/s²) (2 s) + (50 m/s)

v = 40 m/s

p = mv

p = (500 kg) (40 m/s)

p = 20,000 kg m/s

"discovery" - Spanish flu

scientific concept/principle - exponential growth

thank you!

Answers

Answer:

Explanation:

The Spanish flu pandemic of 1918, the deadliest in history, infected an estimated 500 million people worldwide about one-third of the planet’s population and killed an estimated 20 million to 50 million victims, including some 675,000 Americans. The 1918 flu was first observed in Europe, the United States and parts of Asia before swiftly spreading around the world. At the time, there were no effective drugs or vaccines to treat this killer flu strain. Citizens were ordered to wear masks, schools, theaters and businesses were shuttered and bodies piled up in makeshift morgues.

Does this sound familiar?

Its the same thing but with a different name called the Corona virus pandemic the same thing happened in 1918 and now it is happening again in 2020 , but in in 2020 there are far less people infected by the Corona virus as compared to the Spanish flu the numbers approximate around 70 million infected and deaths are around 2 million.

The rapid spread of Spanish flu in the fall of 1918 was at least partially to blame on public health officials unwilling to impose quarantines during wartime. The public health response to the crisis in the United States was further hampered by a severe nursing shortage as thousands of nurses had been deployed to military camps and the front lines. But one of the chief reasons that the Spanish flu claimed so many lives in 1918 was that science simply didn’t have the tools to develop a vaccine for the virus. Microscopes couldn’t even see something as incredibly small as a virus until the 1930s.

That is why the Spanish Flu claimed so many lives in 1918 and the Corona Virus didn't claim that many.

The Corona Virus patients with respect to Spanish Flu patients exponentially decreased because in 2020 we had the specific tools to fight the virus and since mankind was aware when the world engrossed into the pandemic 100 years before the new the risks that it could impose on the world , People started to Quarantine themselves, more nurses/doctors are available rather than in the era of the 19th century.

Mathematically we would say that the exponential growth would be:

\(y=ab^x\)

This is an exponential function, which means as you increase  x , y  increases exponentially, and where a is the initial value and b is the growth factor.

For example:

There are 100,000 cases of Coronavirus when the virus outbroke. If the number of cases doubles every week then how many cases would be there in 10 weeks?

So the solution would be

\(y=ab^x\\y=100000(2)^{10}\\y=102400000\)

Which means people infected with the virus would be approximate 102.5 million. But since this kind of pandemic already broke out in 1918 called the Spanish flu mankind was wise and controlled its growth factor (b) by Quarantining people , shutting down businesses, schools  and implying them to work from home , closing off cafeteria's restaurants for dine in purposes and just allowing take away to reduce human contact, and since 1918 we have more doctors and nurses to treat the infected in 2020 we reduced the outbreak to 70 million in about 10 months other wise it could have been 100 million in just 2.5 months as we can see.

So guys stay indoors just go out if you REALLY need something, avoid meeting others , wear masks and gloves :)
