Read Part One of Article B on sea otters.
If you have ever watched sea otters swim and play at your local zoo, you know they are extraordinary animals. But did you know they are under threat of extinction? That means no more sea otters in the wild and fewer in captivity. Sea otters have been on the Endangered Species List for over 45 years, but there are actions humans can take to protect them.
The Fur Trade
In the 1800s, sea otters were hunted for their fur. The fur trade between North America and Europe was booming, and sea otter fur was a popular option because of its thickness. By the mid-20th century, sea otters had been hunted to near extinction. Only 1,000−2,000 sea otters were believed to be living in the wild in 1929. Many people thought the species would soon become extinct. However, due to conservation efforts during the second half of the 20th century, sea otter populations recovered. The strengthening of the numbers of sea otters in the wild is often considered to be one of the greatest successes in marine conservation.
Despite their comeback, sea otters are sadly still an endangered species. This is due to predators and human impact on the sea otter's habitat.
Predators
Sea otters are threatened by other animals in the water and on land. Killer whales are one of the sea otter's main predators now that the seal and sea lion populations are declining. Sharks, sea lions, and eagles also pluck sea otters from the water while bears and coyotes will hunt them on land. Sea otters use their intelligence to outsmart some of their predators. They also use their sharp teeth to protect themselves.
What is the author's point of view on the reason the sea otter population recovered?
Laws were passed to shorten the number of months in sea otter hunting season.
Sea otters learned to eat a more varied diet, saving themselves from extinction.
Conservation efforts in the last half of the twentieth century saved sea otters.
More people started owning sea otters as pets, which increased their number.
Answer:
the answer is c Conservation efforts in the last half of the twenthith century saved sea otters
Explanation:
the reason that the author states in the passage is that conservation efforts by humans during the last half of the 20th century allowed the sea otters to bounce back

Which statement best describes how text is used to create meaning in this advertisement? Responses The language is very serious and emphasizes profit to attract businesses. The language provides detailed information about the product while emphasizing exactly what is for sale. The language doesn't communicate information; it just reflects the imagery. The language doesn't communicate information; it just reflects the imagery. The language contains logical fallacies designed to fool the viewer.
The correct response would be
' ;
Answer:
Explanation:Advertisements are generally created to persuade the audience to buy a product or
service. They use various elements like text, language, and imagery to create meaning in the
advertisement. The purpose of this essay is to analyze how text is used to create meaning in an
advertisement and identify which statement best describes it. The thesis statement for this essay
states that the language used in advertisements emphasizes profit rather than providing detailed
information about the product.
Body Paragraph 1
The advertisement chosen for analysis is a car commercial that uses phrases like "Limited
Time Offer” and "Get Yours Today" in its text, emphasizing urgency and scarcity. Such
statements highlight profits as they encourage potential buyers to purchase the vehicle
immediately without much thought or consideration regarding its actual value.
Body Paragraph 2
In addition, the advertisement also uses images of young people driving through scenic
locations, creating a sense of adventure and freedom associated with owning their car brand. This
creates an emotional connection between consumers and the brand by portraying how owning
such vehicles will make them feel.
3
Body Paragraph 3
Logical fallacies such as appeal to emotion can be seen when advertisers attempt to
manipulate consumers' feelings by associating their products with happiness or success. These
manipulations often contribute towards creating meaning in advertising by misleading audiences
into purchasing something they might not need at all.
Conclusion
In conclusion, advertisements use several techniques like imagery, language, logical
fallacies etc., which help create meaning within them explaining why they exist beyond
encouraging purchases simply. In this essay we have analyzed how texts are used within ads
highlighting profits instead of giving detailed information about products. Its significance lies in
understanding how these tactics work together allowing marketers present themselves more
effectively while influencing consumer behavior; being aware of ads’ ploys may help us resist
unnecessary purchases — indicating a need for better regulation on what businesses can market
so that fewer people waste their resources because of ads’ deceitful nature (Smith & Burdick).

should phones be allowed at school
Answer:
Phones should be allowed in school because if the school does not have enough Chromebooks, students can use their phones. Furthermore, phones can help save the school from limited access to technology and save the school from wasting money. For example, if students do not have a Chromebook for a science class, they can use their phones to work on their science class. It can also help people communicate with each other, including something during an emergency. For example, parents can call their children to see where they are, how they are doing, what is going on in school, etc. That is a beneficial thing. Lastly, phones are useful for taking pictures of very long or detailed notes. For example, if a teacher writes much information about a physics unit and the student does not have enough time. The student can take a picture of the notes and move on quickly. After that, once they get home, they can write down all the notes that the teacher wrote. With that, it can help students efficiently. That is the last reason. Some people say that phones make students get distracted from learning new things. For example, a student might listen to music during class with a phone and not listen to the teacher's attention. If that happens, the teacher can take away their phone and give them back at the end of class. Some people also say that some students misuse their phones by doing something else instead of doing their school work. For example, using social media, However, if that happens, then the teachers can take the student's phone and give a warning at first. If the child still misbehaves like this, they can send the student to the office, then call their parents and tell them everything.

A Helping Hand? Media Mix: Education STOCKHOLM, Sweden (Achieve3000, August 2, 2017). The syringe slides in between the worker's thumb and index finger. With a click, a microchip is injected, and just like that, another on-the-job "cyborg" is created. This isn't taking place on the pages of a dystopian science fiction novel; this isn't The Giver, Brave New World, or Fahrenheit 451. It's happening at the real-life headquarters of Epicenter Stockholm, an office hub for startup companies in Sweden. Since January 2015, Epicenter has implanted willing workers with microchips that are about the size of grains of rice. The implanted chips work like swipe cards; they're used to open doors without inserting keys, operate printers without pushing buttons, and even purchase smoothies without reaching for credit cards. Completing these everyday tasks requires the mere wave of employees' microchipped hands. Having high-tech capabilities within human hands may be fascinating, but the idea isn't new. Such microchips are already often implanted in pets. They can be scanned to provide information if the animals are separated from their owners. Some companies use microchips to track deliveries. However, the technology has never been used to tag employees on a broad scale before. In fact, Epicenter is one of the first companies in the world to make chip implants broadly available in this way. As of April 2017, it had implanted about 150 workers. "The biggest benefit…is convenience," said Patrick Mesterton. Mesterton is Epicenter's cofounder and CEO. "It basically replaces a lot of things you have, other communication devices, whether [they] be credit cards or keys." As a demonstration, Mesterton unlocks a door by simply waving his hand near it. The magic that Mesterton seems to demonstrate is made possible by a type of technology known as Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID). It's the same technology in contactless credit cards or smartphone payment apps. When activated by a reader a short distance away, a small amount of d

B: Mr. Harmon knows where he was during the day of the robbery.
C: It is a rule of the court that a lawyer may not argue with someone during questioning.

I feel like this is the correct answer because O'Brien objected to the question, and Petrocelli agreed with O'Brien. I feel like this is what is happening because Petrocelli withdrew that question and re-phrased it into a question that wasn't trying to lead Mr. Harmon into an argument.

Journal Entry: Finding a Recipe Online
Today I was feeling adventurous and decided to try a new dish for dinner. I searched online for some recipes and found one that looked delicious and easy to make. It was called **chicken and mushroom pie** and it had a lot of positive reviews.
I followed the instructions carefully and gathered all the ingredients. I had to chop some onions, garlic, mushrooms and chicken, and cook them in a skillet with some butter, flour, chicken stock, cream and herbs. Then I transferred the mixture to a pie dish and covered it with some puff pastry. I brushed some egg on top and baked it in the oven for about 25 minutes.
The result was amazing! The pie was golden and flaky on the outside, and creamy and savory on the inside. The chicken was tender and the mushrooms added a nice texture and flavor. It was very filling and satisfying, and I enjoyed every bite. I felt proud of myself for trying something new and succeeding.
I think I will make this dish again in the future, maybe with some variations. I wonder what other recipes I can find online that are easy and tasty. Maybe I will search for some desserts next time. I love exploring new cuisines and learning new skills in the kitchen.

The day of the race arrived and several animals came to watch. The race began and Hare whizzed by, eager to win and end the race. Tortoise had many cousins who looked just like him. One was at the starting line. The others were waiting at different places along the path. Tortoise was hiding in a bush near the finish line. 3As Hare turned a corner, she saw one of Tortoise’s cousins ahead of her. She thought that this was Tortoise. “How did you get ahead of me?” Hare asked. 4“I walk slowly, but I run very fast—so fast that you did not see me pass by,” replied Tortoise’s cousin. 5Hare ran even faster. As she turned another corner, she once again saw one of Tortoise’s cousins ahead of her. Once again, she thought this was Tortoise. “How did you get ahead of me this time?” Hare asked. 6“I ran so fast that you did not see me pass by,” replied the cousin. This kept on happening until Hare reached the finish line. Tortoise had already crossed it. Tortoise had won the race. As usual, the tortoise moved very slowly. “I could have run to the other side of the lake by now,” bragged the hare. 2”You think so?” asked the tortoise. “Let’s race.” 3The hare laughed but agreed to race. When the race began, the hare ran so fast that he was out of sight within a few minutes. When the hare was about halfway to the finish line, he decided to take a nap in the warm sunshine. “That tortoise will never beat me,” he said and fell asleep. But the tortoise walked steadily on and on. 4Hare slept longer than he had planned. When he woke, he did not see tortoise anywhere, so he decided that he had better dash to the finish line. However, when he reached the finish line, he was shocked to see that the tortoise had already crossed it. The tortoise had won the race.
