which statements from the passage provide valid points to support warren's argument that pay inequality is a form of discrimination? select valid reasoning for points that support her argument. select invalid reasoning for points that fail to support her argument.

Answers

Valid Reasoning: Women today still earn a third less of every dollar a man earns; The Paycheck Fairness Act would ensure that differences in salaries are based on differences in jobs; More women go to college than men, but unequal pay makes it harder for women to pay back student loans.

Invalid Reasoning: Members of the Senate have repeatedly blocked voting on the Paycheck Fairness Act; More middle-class families rely on two incomes for survival.

Senator Warren draws three legitimate arguments from the passage to support her case that salary discrepancy is a form of discrimination:

Women still earn one-third of what males get for every dollar earned. This remark emphasises the reality that men and women are paid differently, with women getting paid less for the same job or labour of similar value. This is deemed unfair since it harms women and maintains workplace gender differences.

The Paycheck Fairness Act would guarantee that wage disparities are based on job differences. This remark implies that legislation is needed to address wage disparities and guarantee that remuneration are based on work requirements rather than gender or other characteristics that may lead to discrimination.

Women attend college at a higher rate than males, but uneven compensation makes it more difficult for women to repay student debts. This statement emphasises the impact uneven pay has on women's economic security, making it more difficult for them to pay off college loans and attain financial independence.

The two assertions that do not support Warren's reasoning, on the other hand, are:

Members of the Senate have repeatedly prevented the Paycheck Fairness Act from being voted on. This comment emphasises a political difficulty underlying the Paycheck Fairness Act's passing, but it does not directly support Warren's assertion that wage inequity is a form of discrimination.

Increasingly middle-class households rely on two paychecks to make ends meet. Although this comment may be connected to pay disparity in some manner, it does not directly corroborate Warren's claim that pay inequality is a form of discrimination.

In a kinship study of intelligence, which of the following sibling pairs will likely share a high correlation?

Answers

In a kinship study of intelligence, the sibling pairs that are likely to share a high correlation are full siblings and identical twins.

Full siblings share both biological parents and, on average, inherit about 50% of their genes from each parent. Therefore, they have a higher likelihood of sharing genetic factors that contribute to intelligence. This genetic similarity can result in a high correlation of intelligence between full siblings.

Identical twins, on the other hand, share 100% of their genetic material as they are formed from the same fertilized egg that splits into two embryos. This means that they have the same genetic makeup, including genes related to intelligence. As a result, identical twins are more likely to have a high correlation of intelligence.

It is important to note that while full siblings and identical twins may share a high correlation of intelligence due to their genetic similarity, other factors such as environmental influences and individual differences can also affect intelligence. For example, siblings growing up in different environments or having different educational opportunities may display variations in their intelligence levels despite their genetic similarities.

In conclusion, full siblings and identical twins are the sibling pairs that are likely to share a high correlation in a kinship study of intelligence due to their genetic similarities. However, it is essential to consider other factors that can influence intelligence as well.

All of them came to look at Snowball's drawings at least once a day. Even the hens and ducks came, and were at pains not to tread on the chalk marks. Only Napoleon held aloof. He had declared himself against the windmill from the start. One day, however, he arrived unexpectedly to examine the plans. He walked heavily round the shed, looked closely at every detail of the plans and snuffed at them once or twice, then stood for a little while contemplating them out of the corner of his eye; then suddenly he lifted his leg, urinated over the plans, and walked out without uttering a word. –Animal Farm, George Orwell Which statement best suggests a cause of the conflict between Napoleon and Snowball? Napoleon thinks that Snowball’s plans are too complicated. Napoleon thinks that Snowball will ruin the farm with technology. Napoleon believes that Snowball’s windmill plans will take effort away from producing food. Napoleon wants to control all aspects of the farm and sees Snowball’s idea as a threat.

Answers

The statement that best suggests a cause of the conflict between Napoleon and Snowball is that Napoleon believes that Snowball’s windmill plans will take effort away from producing food.

This is evident from Napoleon's initial declaration against the windmill and his refusal to join the other animals in examining Snowball's drawings. By urinating on the plans, Napoleon showed his disapproval and lack of support for Snowball's idea.

This suggests that Napoleon is more concerned with maintaining control over the production of food on the farm and sees Snowball's plans as a threat to his authority. The conflict between Napoleon and Snowball highlights the struggle for power and control on the farm, with Napoleon representing the oppressive and authoritarian regime, and Snowball symbolizing the progressive and innovative forces seeking to improve the lives of all animals.

Ultimately, Napoleon's sabotage of the windmill plans is a reflection of his desire to maintain his grip on power and control over the other animals, even at the cost of progress and prosperity for the farm.

IS PRIDE WORTH CELEBRATING?

(A reaction paper on the celebration of pride month)

Everytime year members of the LGBTQI+ community celebrate Pride month as part of an ongoing movement for such a community to feel safety and belongingness living among other people. This festivity happens once a month where this community are free to express their sexuality in a day-long parade, followed by programs and parties which is encapsulated by the symbol of a rainbow. No one will ever dare say this because of cancel culture, but i am here to tell you that such an event can be celebrated in a different way and a different name

One thing that bothers me on a lot is how during this festival or parade, some members of this community dress up like Jesus and mock the Christian belief. We see are crosses and Jesus like a gay. And this is only the surface of it. Early this year, the Brazilian pride month showed an array of mockery in the Christian belief from dressing up like the devil to showing Jesus lesbian or gay. Later on, in a news report by Rappler (2023) Brazil got flooded with a few casualities and dead people. Their parade got a lawsuit and is banned until further notice. Why is it that these people feel tha need to disrespect the Christian belief and flares up when they get disrespected? I thougt they are eyeing for equality. Where is equality there when you neglect that Christians have rights and beliefs as well?

Then, there is this symbol and name. Rainbow and pride. It is bad enough that the LGBTQIA+ use rainbow which is a significant symbol in the Bible. And they go on represent it as "pride" instead of a "promise" which is how Christians see it. And when we go on expressing it to our walls, newsfeed, tweets, or stories, we experience hostility, so much hate range. Is this how the LGBTQIA+ community desire to be remembered in the community whenever the month of Junes comes? Is this how they want for us Christians to feel whenever they celebrate Pride- scared and agitated? Is this how we should live with different beliefs?

As much as I can, I respect people of different sorts and backgrounds. As much as I can, I live out the convenant which Jesus has called me and that is love. But this does not mean that I will abandon my stand and firm belief. I shall and continue to fight for what is right even if it means I am the only one doing it.

Answers

The issue being discussed in the paper is the celebration of Pride month, particularly the concerns raised by the author regarding certain aspects of the celebration and its impact on Christian beliefs.

How to explain the information

The critical issue being addressed is the clash between the LGBTQI+ community's expression of their identity and the potential disrespect or mockery of Christian beliefs during Pride celebrations.

The statement that has the characteristic of a hook is: "No one will ever dare say this because of cancel culture, but I am here to tell you that such an event can be celebrated in a different way and a different name." This statement captures attention by suggesting a controversial perspective that goes against prevailing social norms.

The statement that has the characteristic of a grab is: "Why is it that these people feel the need to disrespect the Christian belief and flares up when they get disrespected?" This statement grabs attention by posing a provocative question that challenges the actions and reactions of the LGBTQI+ community.

The effectiveness of the hook and grab in catching and keeping attention may vary depending on the reader's personal beliefs and perspectives.

In the last paragraph, the author's Call to Action (CTA) is implied rather than explicitly stated. However, the sentence "I shall and continue to fight for what is right even if it means I am the only one doing it" suggests that the author intends to persist in advocating for their beliefs and standing up for what they perceive as right.

The author's CTA can be seen as idealistic rather than realistic. While the author expresses their determination to fight for what they believe is right, it may be challenging for one individual to effect significant change or alter the course of broader societal discussions and celebrations.
