Write an interpretive essay that analyzes literature from the perspective of a quotation. In your essay, interpret the quotation and explain how it applies to literature you have read. Support your viewpoint with evidence from a variety of literary texts that you have read. Include precise language and literary terms.

"That's what literature is. It's the people who went before us, tapping out messages from the past, from beyond the grave, trying to tell us about life and death! Listen to them!" -Passage, Connie Willis

For this assignment you need to:

- Write a multi-paragraph essay with an introduction paragraph, 2-3 body paragraphs, and a concluding paragraph

- Choose 2-3 different pieces of literature you have read *(A Doll's House by Henrik Ibsen and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare)* and relate them to the quote using evidence from those pieces

- Include internal citations for each piece of evidence used (at least 2 per body paragraph)

- Include the MLA formatted citations for each source at the end of the essay.

*The easiest way to answer this question is to provide a link to a copy of your essay! I (and anyone else that uses this question) will reword the work so it doesn't get counted as plagiarism!*

Thank you so much!

Answers

The quote by Connie Willis strikes to the core of what literature is, a message from the past that can teach us about life and death.

What is literature?

Literature is a form of art that uses language to create stories, poems, and plays. It is an expression of ideas and emotions that are meant to be enjoyed and interpreted by its readers. Literature can take many forms, such as novels, short stories, plays, epics, and even non-fiction. It is a powerful way to communicate the thoughts and feelings of an author and can be used as a form of entertainment, a source of knowledge, or a way to explore and understand different cultures.

This idea is applicable to two pieces of literature that I have read, A Doll’s House by Henrik Ibsen and The Tragedy of Julius Caesar by Shakespeare.
In A Doll’s House, the protagonist Nora Helmer chooses to leave her husband and children in order to find her own identity. This decision is rooted in her need to explore life and death, as she states, “I must stand quite alone and try to learn to live… I must try to find out what life really is and what it can become” (Ibsen 67).
The Tragedy of Julius Caesar is another example of how literature taps into the past to provide us with insight into life and death. In the play, Julius Caesar is warned by the soothsayer to “Beware the Ides of March” (Shakespeare I.ii.19). Despite this warning, Caesar ignores it and chooses to go to the Senate House, where he is then killed by his own friends.
By examining these two pieces of literature, we can see how literature taps into the past to provide us with insight into life and death. Through their stories, we can learn that life is fragile and that death can come unexpectedly. We can also see how literature can provide us with guidance and wisdom, as both of these pieces of literature teach us to be aware of our own mortality and to make the most of the time we have in life.

Write a letter to your principal in which you argue who would
benefit most from a volunteering program at school: student
participants or members of the community they could serve.

Answers

A volunteering program in school is a program where students are encouraged to participate in various community service activities voluntarily. These activities can be organized by the school or in partnership with community organizations.

Write a letter stating the given arguments.

Dear Principal,

I am writing to express my thoughts about the volunteering program at our school and who would benefit the most from it. I believe that both the student participants and members of the community they serve would benefit greatly from such a program. However, if I had to choose, I would argue that the community members would benefit the most.

Volunteering programs are an excellent way for students to give back to the community. By participating in volunteer work, students gain valuable life skills such as leadership, teamwork, and communication. They also learn to appreciate the needs of others and develop empathy and compassion towards people from all walks of life.

However, the benefits of volunteering are not limited to just the students. The members of the community they serve would also benefit significantly from such a program. Many people in our community are in need of support and assistance, and volunteers can make a real difference in their lives. Students could offer their time and skills to support a variety of community programs, such as food banks, homeless shelters, or after-school programs.

Volunteering would also help build bridges between the school and the wider community. It would give students an opportunity to interact with people they might not normally encounter in their daily lives. This interaction would help break down barriers and promote understanding and respect for diverse cultures and backgrounds.

In conclusion, I firmly believe that both student participants and members of the community would benefit from a volunteering program at our school. However, I argue that the community members would benefit the most from the program. I hope that you will consider my perspective as you make decisions regarding our school's community engagement programs.

Sincerely,

Tara is inspired by her elder brother to become more independent and curious, while not being physically capable of doing so yet. Tyler has always been a studious guy, so his decision to enroll in college is a logical continuation of that trait; nevertheless, for Tara, it represents a more notable turning point.

The information from me that should meet Katherine Johnson best helps this Question is option D: Katherine computes the path for the Apollo 11 mission to take the first man to the moon and back.

What is the Katherine Johnson issue about?

The reason I choose option d is that this is a significant achievement that contributed to the success of the U.S. space program and helped establish the United States as a leader in space exploration.

Option a, about working on the project that developed the first man-made satellite to completely orbit Earth, and option c, about being part of a team of African American women hired to work on flight research projects for NACA, may also be relevant, as they demonstrate Katherine Johnson's expertise and contributions to the U.S. space program.
