It is a claim that, despite appearing to be supported by genuine premises and sound reasoning, leads to a logically untenable or self-contradictory conclusion. Contradictory yet linked elements—that exist at the same moment and endure over time—are typically included in paradoxes."

which details from antigone, part 1, introduce the theme that divine law can conflict with human laws?

Answers

In Antigone, Part 1 by Sophocles, several details introduce the theme that divine law can conflict with human laws. Here are some key details that highlight this theme:

Antigone's defiance: Antigone openly defies the decree issued by King Creon, which forbids the burial of her brother, Polynices. She believes in the divine law, which dictates that all bodies should receive proper burial rites, regardless of their actions in life. Antigone's act of burying her brother demonstrates her commitment to the divine law and her willingness to face the consequences of disobeying human laws.

Creon's decree: King Creon, in his role as the ruler, proclaims a law that explicitly forbids the burial of Polynices. This decree is a human law aimed at punishing Polynices for his betrayal and ensuring stability within the state. However, this law directly conflicts with the divine law, which emphasizes the importance of honoring the dead. Creon's decree sets up the clash between divine law and human laws.

Antigone's conversation with Ismene: In their conversation, Antigone reveals her belief that divine law takes precedence over human laws. She argues that their duty is to follow the higher laws of the gods, even if it means going against the edicts of mortal rulers. Ismene, on the other hand, initially fears the consequences and is hesitant to defy Creon's decree. This dialogue presents contrasting perspectives on the conflict between divine and human laws.

The Chorus's reflections: The Chorus, as a collective voice, often reflects on the actions and conflicts in the play. They express sentiments that divine law transcends mortal laws and that no human decree can overturn the will of the gods. These reflections serve to reinforce the theme that divine law can conflict with human laws and that the consequences of defying divine law can be severe.

These details collectively emphasize the conflict between divine law and human laws in Antigone, setting the stage for the ethical and moral dilemmas faced by the characters as they grapple with their loyalties and beliefs. The clash between these two types of laws drives much of the dramatic tension and tragic events that unfold throughout the play.

False. The purpose of narrative style is to create a realized fantasy where your belief is NOT suspended.

The purpose of narrative style is to engage readers and immerse them in the story, often by creating a sense of realism and capturing their attention. Narrative style refers to the way in which a story is told, including the use of language, point of view, tone, and other literary techniques. It aims to draw readers into the fictional world and make the story believable or relatable. While narrative style can contribute to the readers' immersion in the story, the primary goal is not to prevent the suspension of disbelief. In fact, in many narratives, especially those involving fantasy or speculative elements, readers willingly suspend their disbelief to engage with the story's imaginative aspects. The narrative style can enhance the enjoyment and connection to the story, but it does not eliminate the possibility of suspended belief.

What should you do to create common ground with an audience in the introduction of a persuasive speech?

Answers

When delivering a persuasive speech, creating common ground with the audience is crucial to get their attention and make them more open to your message.

Here are a few things you can do to create common ground with an audience in the introduction of a persuasive speech:

1. Acknowledge the audience's perspective

It is important to show the audience that you understand their point of view, even if you don't agree with it. You can acknowledge their perspective by sharing a personal experience that shows you can relate to their concerns or by using a quote or statistic that reinforces their beliefs. This will make them feel more comfortable with you and more likely to listen to what you have to say.

2. Establish credibility

To establish credibility, you should introduce yourself and explain why you are qualified to speak on the topic. This can be done by sharing your personal or professional experience with the topic or by citing relevant credentials, such as your education or work experience. This will make the audience more likely to trust you and view you as an expert on the subject.

3. Highlight shared values

To create common ground, you can also highlight shared values between you and the audience. For example, if you are speaking to a group of parents, you can emphasize how your speech will benefit their children. By doing this, you show that you have a shared interest in the topic and that you are working toward a common goal.

4. Use inclusive language

Using inclusive language can also help to create common ground with the audience. This means using pronouns like "we" and "us" instead of "I" or "me." This shows that you are not talking down to the audience but rather that you are part of the group. It can also make the audience feel more involved in the speech and more invested in the message.

"How big is the earth", was the teacher’s question in her Science class. So, this cross-eyed wise student went to the globe at the corner of the room and wrapped a tape measure around it along the equator. He noted down the circumference is 25 ". From there he went on to compute for the volume. If the true circumference of the globe was 27", then his computed volume is erroneous. How much was this error in the volume?

Answers

The formula for the volume of a sphere is given by: V = (4/3)πr³, where V is the volume and r is the radius of the sphere. The question states that the cross-eyed wise student wrapped a tape measure around the globe along the equator and found the circumference to be 25 inches.

This means that the circumference of the globe is 25 inches or 2πr = 25. Solving for r, we have:r = 25/(2π) ≈ 3.98 inchesTherefore, the radius of the globe is approximately 3.98 inches. The question also states that the true circumference of the globe is 27 inches. Solving for the radius using this information, we have:r = 27/(2π) ≈ 4.29 inchesThe difference between these two radii is:4.29 - 3.98 ≈ 0.31 inches.

This means that the radius used by the student was too small by approximately 0.31 inches.Using the incorrect radius, the student computed the volume of the globe to be:V = (4/3)π(3.98)³ ≈ 216.35 cubic inchesIf we compute the volume using the correct radius, we have:V = (4/3)π(4.29)³ ≈ 333.20 cubic inchesThe error in the volume is the difference between these two values:333.20 - 216.35 ≈ 116.85 cubic inchesTherefore, the error in the volume is approximately 116.85 cubic inches.

Write a short summary of this story. The city of Syracuse in Sicily . . . was ruled by a man . . . whose name was Dionysius. [He] had seized power by force, and kept his authority by exercising the greatest severity. He was always surrounded by guards, who at a mere sign from him were ready to put anyone to death.

Dionysius was therefore feared and hated by the people whom he governed, but who would have been very glad to get rid of him. No honest man cared to come near such a bloodthirsty wretch, and there were soon none but wicked men to be found in his court.

These men, hoping to win his favor and get rich gifts, used to flatter him constantly. They never told him the truth, but only praised him, and made believe to admire all he said and did.

Of course, even though they were wicked too, they could really admire him, but secretly hated and despised him. Their praise, therefore, was as false as they and their advice was always as bad as bad could be.

Now, Dionysius was as conceited as he was cruel, and fancied that there was nothing he could not do. Among other things, he thought he could write beautiful poetry. Whenever he wrote a poem, therefore, he read it aloud to all his courtiers, who went into raptures over it, although they made great fun of it behind his back.

Dionysius was highly flattered by their praise, but thought he would like to have it confirmed by the philosopher Philoxenus, the most learned man of Syracuse.

He therefore sent for Philoxenus, and bade him give his candid opinion of the verse. Now, Philoxenus was far too noble a man to tell a lie: and whenever he was consulted by Dionysius, he always boldly told the truth, whether it was agreeable or not.

When the tyrant asked his opinion about the poems, therefore, he unhesitatingly answered that they were trash, and did not deserve the name of poetry at all.

This answer so angered Dionysius, and so sorely wounded his vanity, that he called his guards, and bade them put the philosopher into a prison hewn out of the living rock, and hence known as "The Quarries."

Here Philoxenus was a prisoner for many a day, although his only fault was having told the tyrant an unwelcome truth when asked to speak.

The philosopher_s friends were indignant on hearing that he was in prison, and signed a petition asking Dionysius to set him free. The tyrant read the petition, and promised to grant their request on condition that the philosopher would sup with him.

Dionysius' table was well decked, as usual, and at dessert he again read aloud some new verses he had composed. All the courtiers went in to ecstasies over them, but the philosopher did not say a word.

Dionysius, however, fancied that his long imprisonment had broken his spirit, and that he would not now dare refuse to give a few words of praise: so he pointedly asked Philoxenus what he thought of the poem. Instead of answering, the philosopher gravely turned toward the guards, and in a firm voice cried aloud, "Take me back to The Quarries." thus showing very plainly that he preferred suffering to telling an untruth.

The courtiers were aghast at his rashness, and fully expected that the tyrant would take him at his word and put him in prison, if nothing worse; but Dionysius was struck by the moral courage which made Philoxenus tell the truth at the risk of his life, and he bade him go home in peace.

Should all individuals pay the same tax rate why or why not

Answers

All individuals should not pay the same tax rate because every individual Heyyaz a different amount of property and it has a different income. It would be unfair for someone who has less income and less property to get the same amount of tax rate as someone who has more property and a bigger income. Also the government will not make enough money if they have to wait for people a lesser income to pay the taxes. So in conclusion everyone should get a different tax rate depending on how much property and their final income of the year so it will be fair for everyone and don’t want to get too much tax or too little.

Answer:

No.

Explanation:

All individuals should not pay the same tax rate because income is a factor. If an individual is making 15$ per hour compared to someone making 50$ an hour, the individuals that make more should pay more because they can afford it better. Ex: Kate is making 15$ an hour and works a 10 hour shift, 4 days a week, in total without tax she makes 600 per week. That's not a whole lot, and lets just say everybody has to pay 90$ of tax. 90 dollars would be taken out of her paycheck, and lets see, she has to pay 100 dollars for groceries, 100 dollars for rent, and 100 dollars goes towards retirement she would only have 210 dollars for bills and all her other financial needs. But lets say Maya is making  50 dollars an hour and is working a 10 hour shift 4 times a week, she is making 2000$ a week, she has the same bills as Kate, she has 1,710$ left over for bills and other financial needs, she is able to get by, Kate is just barely getting by. Kate should pay less and Maya should pay more.
