This passage, written by economist David A.
Wells in 1889, describes changes to work during the Industrial Age. The modern manufacturing system has been brought into a condition [similar] to that of a military organization, in which the individual no longer works as independently as formerly, but as a private in the ranks, obeying orders, keeping step, as it were, to the tap of the drum, and having nothing to say as to the plan of his work, of its final completion, or of its ultimate use and distribution. In short, the people who work in the modern factory are, as a rule, taught to do one thing -to perform one and generally a simple operation; and when there is no more of that kind of work to do, they are in a measure helpless. The result has been... [the destruction of] the pride which the workman formerly took in his work... What is one result of the changes described in this passage?
Workers were paid more as their values to companies increased.
Workers became interchangeable, and they were fired when injured or unable to work.
Workers became more loyal to companies who rewarded their creativity.
Workers were celebrated for their individual skills, and the need for labor unions declined.

How do you think China’s policy of isolationism affected its development?

Answers

You have to understand Chinese geography and history about this.

First of all, why is China isolated?

The China Proper has the Pacific Ocean to the east and south. To the southwest, there is the Tibetan highlands. To the west and north, they were desert and frigid climate. It was very enclosing geography.

In the age before sophisticated ship-building technology, and long-term survival ability in the desert and frigid weathers, China Proper was isolated from the rest of the world, in the sense that there were seldom threats of wiping out the mainland culture. The northern tribes could not get past Chang Jiang (a.k.a. Yangtze River) and control the entire China Proper.

Until the Mongolians and the Yuan Dynasty suppressed the Chinese culture by conquering all of China Proper.

Coincidentally, China led the world in technology up until that point. China was self-sufficient. Heck, children these days are still taught to this day about how China is very large, therefore it can produce everything that everybody needs, and how it only choose to import from the outside world. (With the current trade war, we all know that’s not true anymore.)

Anyways, as you know, the Chinese people worship tradition, and the structure of the government is one of them. Although the structure gradually evolved in time, no dynasty really made any sudden big changes. It used to be like a big corporation, where the CEO delegates out different duties, and the department heads have authority to initiate orders without seeking approval from the CEO.

The Yuan Dynasty broke the traditional Chinese government structure. When Ming Dynasty came around, under the rule of Zhu Yuanzhang, who had no understanding on how to run a country (because he grew up as a thief and a monk), and even less trust in his followers, the government structure turned into an absolute monarchy, in which only the emperor has the authority to initiate any orders.

That is when China began to fall behind. Absolute monarchy comes with xenophobia, and are ultra-conservative, because they have no time to understand new ideas, which they don’t know if the new ideas can be used to overthrow their rule.

They closed themselves in and tried to keep everything status quo forever, or at least until they die.

In conclusion, isolationism is not in itself bad, given that you are self-sufficient. It is the attitude of the leaders that matters the most.

In the western world, no country has ever been self-sufficient. Most, if not all, countries rely on trading, such that isolationism has been given a negative connotation. When studying China, one needs to remove himself from the kind of “you must trade” idea.

It is because of isolationism that Ancient China required experts in literally everything in life, and that is the reason Ancient China could develop all kinds of new technologies in everything.

In the western world, each country is like a company that specializing in a few things, and they trade with each other. That is the opposite of China. China is a conglomerate that does everything.

The financial system comprises all financial markets, instruments and institutions. Today I would like to address the issue of whether the design of the financial system matters for economic growth. While some gaps remain, I would say that the financial system is vitally linked to economic performance. Nevertheless, economists still hold conflicting views regarding the underlying mechanisms that explain the positive relation between the degree of development of the financial system and economic development.

why might drought in asia affect people in europe or north america

Answers

Drought in Asia can impact people in Europe and North America through its effects on global food supply chains, water systems, trade and manufacturing, and climate patterns.

Several reasons contribute to this interconnectedness and the potential effects of the Asian drought on these distant regions.

Firstly, agriculture plays a significant role in the global food supply chain. Asian countries are major producers and exporters of agricultural commodities such as rice, wheat, soybeans, and cotton. Drought conditions in Asia can lead to decreased crop yields and reduced availability of these commodities, causing price spikes and disruptions in global food markets.
Secondly, water scarcity in Asia can affect global water systems. Rivers originating in Asia, such as the Yangtze and the Ganges, are major water sources that flow into the oceans. Reduced water flow due to drought can impact river ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and oceanic currents.
Moreover, global trade and economic interdependence connect regions across the world. Asia is a major hub for manufacturing and production, supplying goods and components to markets worldwide.

Lastly, climate change is a global issue affecting all regions. Droughts in Asia can serve as a reminder of the interconnectedness of the Earth's climate system.

The primary concern of Muslims immediately upon the death of Prophet Muhammad was the issue of succession, that is, who would succeed the Prophet as the leader of the Muslim community (Ummah) and the head of the Islamic state.

What was principle concern of Muslims after death of Mohammad?

This issue was of great importance because the Prophet played a central role in the establishment and consolidation of the Muslim community and his leadership was seen as essential to its success and survival.

The controversy over succession led to a split in the Muslim community between those who believed that the Prophet's cousin and son-in-law, Ali ibn Abi Talib, should succeed him, and those who believed that Abu Bakr, one of the Prophet's closest companions, should be the leader.

The former group, who became known as the Shi'a (or Shia), believed that the leadership of the Ummah should remain within the Prophet's family, while the latter group, who became known as the Sunni, believed that leadership should be based on merit and the consensus of the community.

During World War II, the government chose to create military stations in Georgia for three reasons:

1.ample land: Georgia possessed large expanses of land that could be used for military training and exercises. As a result, it was an appealing place for the military to create massive outposts.

2.large road network: Georgia had a well-developed road network, making it easier to transfer troops, equipment, and supplies throughout the state.

3. Moderate environment: Georgia's mild climate makes it a perfect location for year-round military training, allowing for outdoor activities and exercises even in the winter.

How did China's economy change as a result of European interference during the mid-19th century

Answers

China's economy underwent significant changes as a result of European interference during the mid-19th century. The interference, primarily driven by European powers seeking access to China's markets and resources, had profound effects on China's economic system.

One of the major impacts was the forced opening of Chinese ports to foreign trade through a series of unequal treaties, such as the Treaty of Nanjing in 1842. These treaties dismantled China's trade restrictions, allowing European powers to establish concessions and engage in unrestricted trade. This influx of foreign goods and competition disrupted traditional industries and undermined Chinese businesses. The opium trade imposed by the British East India Company caused a severe social and economic crisis in China. The addictive drug flooded the market, leading to widespread addiction and draining China of its silver reserves, resulting in a trade imbalance.European interference also led to the loss of control over key industries, such as manufacturing. Western powers established factories and industrial enterprises, exploiting China's resources and labor. This shift disrupted China's self-sufficient agrarian economy and contributed to the decline of traditional handicrafts. European interference during the mid-19th century resulted in China's economic decline, loss of control over trade, and the disruption of traditional industries. These changes paved the way for further economic and political challenges in the years to come, contributing to China's struggle for modernization and eventual transformation.

International trade has a major impact on U.S. agriculture. Exports are crucial, providing a market for a major share of crop production and a growing share of meat output. Over this period, the value of agricultural exports has exceeded the cost of agricultural imports, generating a trade surplus each year. Agriculture and its related industries (things like food sales and other industries that wouldn't exist or would be much smaller without agriculture) contribute $1.05 trillion to U.S. GDP, according to the latest data. That puts agriculture's contribution to the overall economy at about 6 percent.
