What Caused The Civil War Essay

The American Civil War was the war that ended slavery. The civil war was known as one of the bloodiest and deadliest conflicts the United States had ever seen. The loss of life was an estimated amount of 620,000 men. It lasted four years, from April 12, 1861, through May 9, 1865. However, while slavery was a major cause of the American Civil War, there were several other major factors.

One of the several factors that helped cause the Civil War was the economy at the time. While the economy wasn’t in bad shape, the North and South were different and had very different views and ideas about their futures. The Northern area couldn't have huge farms like the South. However, they were very diverse in the items they wanted to produce. So they became more focused on industry. Items like cotton, wool, pig iron, weapons, furniture, and other important items were being produced at a faster rate than the south. "By 1860, 90 percent of the nation's manufacturing output came from the northern states” (Industry and Economy during the Civil War) The need for slaves in the north had reduced drastically. Slavery wasn't needed in the North as much as it was in the south.

Another major factor that led to the Civil war was the social status and views at the time. The North and South had very different social views. In the North, while a good amount of the people owned slaves, many of them began to see it as wrong and inhumane. They also began to believe that they no longer needed slaves to do work for them and that the slaves should have freedom, as well as their own rights. But even with the North beginning to want to change things, slaves were still not treated like human beings most of the time. Most were left unfed and if they disobeyed orders they were whipped and cruelly beaten. However, the most of the South didn't see slavery as inhumane. To them slavery was needed, slaves were needed to help farm, as well as make profit for their owners.

Imagine you are a soldier after the American Revolutionary war. The Articles of Confederation are in place and the government has no money to pay you for your work in the war. You are about to lose your land and home. Do you agree with the people that participated in Shay's Rebellion? Why or Why not?

Answers

Shay's Rebellion was a reaction to the financial and political difficulties faced by the early United States after the American Revolution. The soldiers who fought in the war, including the imagined soldier in this scenario, were owed large amounts of money by the government and were on the verge of losing their homes and land. It can be understood that they might agree with the participants in Shay's Rebellion as they were facing similar financial difficulties and wanted their rights to be protected.

However, it can also be argued that resorting to violence and rebellion is not an appropriate solution to address the issues faced by the government and the citizens. A more reasonable solution would be to seek political and legal means to address the grievances and work towards a more stable and just system.

I have to write an essay on the industrial revolution. so somebody please answer the questions to help me answer the essay below. What is the industrial revolution? Why was it important?how did it affect the people and environment?(positively and negatively)and please write anything else to help me. Thank you! Brainliest Included!

Answers

Answer:

What is the Industrial Revolution?:

The industrial revolution happened in 1760, and it was when people started to create their ideas into reality, resulting in better inventions to make life easier to live in.

Why was it important?:

This revolution impacted the world we have today, it made it where we have our phones our clothes, and transportation. It was the start of even greater inventions.

How did it affect the people and the environment?:

Positive: It allowed people to transport and communicate faster with their relatives, or even businesses, as well as other countries. It also allowed goods to be shipped and transported faster leading to more income and products. Not only were products being shipped in they also we're being made faster with the help of the inventions being made (Cotten gin, reaper, sewing machine, etc.)

Negative: While the Industrial Revolution was happening, companies were being made, and inventions were getting bigger so that they had to move them to bigger buildings, which then started to result in cities; more and more people started to come and move into cities for various reasons, including better entertainment, a better job, and a better economy. But, while this was good and all it lead to poor living spaces where there was awful hygiene, bad ventilation, and not enough space; these places were called Tenements.

Explanation:

The industrial revolution was a period of great change in society as technology advanced and industry developed. It was important because it led to many great inventions and allowed civilization to progress. It affected people and the environment both positively and negatively. Positive changes include better standard of living and increased productivity. Negative changes include increased pollution and destruction of the natural environment. Other changes include new technologies, new jobs, greater population growth, and the spread of urbanization

What is the question I don’t understand try too be more specific

Answer:

Question 1

1.''' General Washington decided not to impose a battlefield strategy on his field commanders''. The general consensus among historians is that Washington was a mediocre military strategist at best.  However, a recent study in the Academy of Management Journal cast some doubt on that consensus.

''Washington decided to oversee renovations on Mount Vernon during the most tenuous year of the Revolution.'' Imagine leading a comically outnumbered, under-resourced, and woefully unskilled force where the majority of your teenaged army marches throughout the New England snow barefoot because you can’t afford to buy them shoes in a war that—if lost—could send you to the gallows for treason.

3.'' Washington Decided not to make himself supreme ruler of the United States.'' After risking his life to lead the American Revolution—often bravely putting himself directly in the line of fire—Washington shocked the entire world by voluntarily returning all his powers to the American people and their elected representatives.  It was a decision that even led his recently defeated foe, King George III, to comment that Washington was “the greatest character of his generation.” We will never know whether this decision was driven by altruism or a self-interested desire to be adored by history.  What we do know is that decision aligned perfectly with the pattern of decisions Washington established

Because of this!

Explanation: Words from a speech by Patrick Henry urging the American colonies to revolt against England. Henry spoke only a few weeks before the Revolutionary War began: “Gentlemen may cry Peace, Peace, but there is no peace.

Give me liberty, or give me death!" is a quotation attributed to Patrick Henry from a speech he made to the Second Virginia Convention on March 23, 1775,[1] at St. John's Church in Richmond, Virginia.

Source: Planetary Motion: The History of an Idea That Launched the Scientific Revolution, from earthobservatory.nasa.gov.

The ancient Greek philosophers, whose ideas shaped the worldview of Western Civilization leading up to the Scientific Revolution in the sixteenth century, had conflicting theories about why the planets moved across the sky. One camp thought that the planets orbited around the Sun, but Aristotle, whose ideas won out, believed that the planets and the Sun orbited Earth. He saw no sign that the Earth was in motion: no perpetual wind blew over the surface of the Earth, and a ball thrown straight up into the air doesn’t land behind the thrower, as Aristotle assumed it would if the Earth were moving. For Aristotle, this meant that the Earth had to be still, and the planets, the Sun, and the fixed dome of stars rotated around Earth.

For nearly 1,000 years, Aristotle’s view of a stationary Earth at the center of a revolving universe dominated natural philosophy, the name that scholars of the time used for studies of the physical world. A geocentric worldview became engrained in Christian beliefs, making it a belief of religion as much as natural philosophy. Despite that, it was a priest who brought back the idea that the Earth moves around the Sun.
In 1515, a Polish priest named Nicolaus Copernicus proposed that the Earth was a planet like Venus or Saturn, and that all planets circled the Sun. Afraid of criticism (some scholars think Copernicus was more concerned about scientific shortcomings of his theories than he was about the Church’s disapproval), he did not publish his theory until 1543, shortly before his death. The theory gathered few followers, and for a time, some of those who did give respect to the idea faced charges of heresy. Italian scientist Giordano Bruno was burned at the stake for teaching, among other heretical ideas, Copernicus’ heliocentric view of the Universe.
But the evidence for a heliocentric solar system gradually built. When Galileo pointed his telescope into the night sky in 1610, he saw for the first time in human history that moons orbited Jupiter. If Aristotle were right about all things orbiting Earth, then these moons could not exist. Galileo also observed the phases of Venus, which proved that the planet orbits the Sun. While Galileo did not share Bruno’s fate, he was tried for heresy under the Roman Inquisition and placed under house arrest for life.
At about the same time, German mathematician Johannes Kepler was publishing a series of laws that describe the orbits of the planets around the Sun. Still in use today, the mathematical equations provided accurate predictions of the planets’ movement under Copernican theory. In 1687, Isaac Newton put the final nail in the coffin for the Aristotelian, geocentric view of the Universe. Building on Kepler’s laws, Newton explained why the planets moved as they did around the Sun and he gave the force that kept them in check a name: gravity.
For questions 1 and 2, highlight the correct answer.

1) Aristotle’s understanding of the relationship between the sun and the planets was called geocentrism. According to this theory,

The sun revolves around the Earth.
The Earth revolves around the sun.

2) Scientists such as Copernicus and Galileo challenged Aristotle’s understanding of the relationship between the sun and the planets. According to their contrary view,

The sun revolves around the Earth.
The Earth revolves around the sun.

3) Why do you think Aristotle’s incorrect view lasted so long?

4) What is heresy? Why do you think scientists, like Bruno, were charged with heresy?

5) What was the role of Christianity in deciding whether ideas were accepted or rejected?

Answers

1) The sun revolves around the Earth
2) The Earth revolves around the sun
3) It was a popular idea, especially with the church, the teachings of which were rarely combatted. With the people of the church in the majority and arguing against heliocentrism, convincing them of the opposite of their beliefs would be difficult.
4) Heresy is essentially a belief that contradicts the teachings of orthodox religions. With the church teaching and believing in geocentrism, saying that the exact opposite is true would definitely be viewed as heresy.
5) Christianity was the most "common" religion, with many faithful followers who wouldn't question too much; If the church said that the sun revolves around the Earth, to them, it was true.
