How did chinampas help the Aztec economy

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

Aztec agriculture in the heart of the empire used chinampas for their crops. Chinampa is a method of farming that used small, rectangular areas to grow crops on the shallow lake beds in the Mexican valley.  Chinampas were essentially artificial islands created for the crops.

An area was staked out in the lake bed, usually about thirty by two and a half meters.  Once the area was fenced off, the farmers layered it with mud, sediment, and decaying vegetation until it was above the level of the lake. Trees were also often planted in the corners to help secure the area.

These islands then provided rich soil for crops with easy access to water. The farmers used channels between the islands to get to each area by canoe.

How did measures such as the Treaty of Balta Liman affect growth within the Ottoman Empire in the 19th century?

Answers

Answer:

The 1838 Treaty of Balta Liman, or the Anglo-Ottoman Treaty, is a formal trade agreement signed between the Sublime Porte of the Ottoman Empire and Great Britain. The trade policies imposed upon the Ottoman Empire, after the Treaty of Balta Liman, were some of the most liberal, open market, settlements that had ever been enacted during the time. The terms of the treaty stated that, the Ottoman Empire will abolish all monopolies, allow British merchants and their collaborators to have full access to all Ottoman markets and will be taxed equally to local merchants. These agreements did not constitute an equal free trade arrangement, as the United Kingdom still employed protectionist policies on their agricultural markets.

why might drought in asia affect people in europe or north america

Answers

Drought in Asia can impact people in Europe and North America through its effects on global food supply chains, water systems, trade and manufacturing, and climate patterns.

Several reasons contribute to this interconnectedness and the potential effects of the Asian drought on these distant regions.

Firstly, agriculture plays a significant role in the global food supply chain. Asian countries are major producers and exporters of agricultural commodities such as rice, wheat, soybeans, and cotton. Drought conditions in Asia can lead to decreased crop yields and reduced availability of these commodities, causing price spikes and disruptions in global food markets.
Secondly, water scarcity in Asia can affect global water systems. Rivers originating in Asia, such as the Yangtze and the Ganges, are major water sources that flow into the oceans. Reduced water flow due to drought can impact river ecosystems, marine biodiversity, and oceanic currents.
Moreover, global trade and economic interdependence connect regions across the world. Asia is a major hub for manufacturing and production, supplying goods and components to markets worldwide.

Lastly, climate change is a global issue affecting all regions. Droughts in Asia can serve as a reminder of the interconnectedness of the Earth's climate system.
