Estimate the distance of a fading white dwarf supernova of luminosity 108lsun whose apparent brightness is comparable to that of a bright cepheid variable star 100 million light-years from earth.

Answers

Answer 1

Answer:

The supernova is a fraction of 0.7 of the size of the observable universe which is 10 billion light years away.

Explanation:

Apparent brightness(AB) = luminosity(L) / 4πr²

∴ Luminosity(L) = Apparent brightness(AB) × 4πr²

Ratio of the luminosity of cepheid and supernova with the same brightness will be written as;

\(\frac{L_{cepheid}}{L_{supernova}} = \frac{AB_{cepheid}(4\pi r^2)}{AB_{supernova}(4\pi r^2)}\)

\(= \frac{AB_{cepheid}(r^2_{cepheid})}{AB_{supernova}(r^2_{supernova})}\)

\(\frac{(r^2_{cepheid})}{(r^2_{supernova})}\)

Therefore,   \(r_{supernova} = r_{cepheid}\sqrt{\frac{luminosity_{cepheid}}{luminosity_{supernova}} }\)  ...................(a)

Since we already have \(r_{cepheid}\) as 100 million light year, substitute for luminosity of supernova and luminosity of cepheid as 10⁸\(L_{sun}\) and 10,000\(L_{sun}\) respectively in equation (a)

\(r_{supernova} = 100 million \sqrt{\frac{10^8L_{sun}}{10,000L_{sun}} }\) ==> 10 billion light year

the ratio of the distance to the size of the universe:

Supernova / Observable Universe  = (10 / 14) billion light years

Supernova / Observable Universe  = 0.7

Answer 2

The supernova is a fraction of the size of 0.7 of the size of the viewable universe that is 10 bn light years away.

What is supernova and how far is it. ?

The supernova is a very powerful and luminous Steller explosion and is a transitional astronomical event and take place ducting the evolution and is one of the stages of the massive star. Triggered by the leakage of the gases.

The distance of the fading of a white dwarf supernova of brightness is 108 sun and has brightness as comparable to that star of the brightest Cepheid. The star has a variable of 100 million  light years form earth. Thus distance of the nearest supernova is 50 billion light years and the observable is 10 billion.

Political Issues of 2021

Political Issues of 2021

Answers

Answer:

Immigrant communities encounter many challenges including discrimination such as being told to “go back to your own country,” language difficulties as many immigrants don’t speak English upon their arrival, lower access to healthcare due to lower paying jobs without benefits and visa issues as some immigrants are undocumented, among many others. There is also the added challenge of isolation from the larger national community. Many immigrant families live within or very close to their immigrant community, which may reinforce a sense of separation.

Coping with thesechallenges can lead to mental health issues or mental illness, particularly for those with a pre-existing biological vulnerability to a mental illness.

Insufficient Mental Health Treatment

At the time of my parent’s immigration, mental health education in their homeland was non-existent. There was rarely any discussion of mental health. When they arrived in Canada, they could not speak English. There were no Portuguese-speaking mental health care providers. And the few Portuguese-speaking doctors there had very heavy patient loads and did not address mental health during their short consultations.

In some immigrant communities, mental health concerns are actively ignored and people are discouraged from seeking help. Their reluctance is often out of fear that others might find out or due to high treatment costs. Some cultures also have alternative treatment approaches to mental health care such as herbal remedies or spiritual practices. For example, some communities use culturally rooted practices of mindfulness and meditations or religious practices such as prayer.

Stigma In The Community

In the Portuguese community where I grew up, mental illness was highly stigmatized. Women and men were reluctant to speak about it. If and when women expressed emotional concerns, they were quickly dismissed. Men never talked about emotional concerns since community perception was that strong men should not be emotional. Talking about mental health outside the home was prohibited. Family members also heavily gossiped in our close-knit community, causing people to be guarded or secretive.

Growing up, I never heard anyone in the Portuguese community talk about mental health, including my parents. I was shocked to be diagnosed with a mental illness many years later. Upon reflection, I think I showed signs of mental health issues as early as high school, but neither I nor my parents knew how to identify it, much less how to seek help. Parents can play an important role in the mental health literacy of their children, but often immigrant parents are not in a position to help.

Stereotypes

Common stereotypes of immigrants—that we are less educated, more blue-collar, more conservative—can adversely impact our mental health. To avoid these perceptions, we sometimes disassociate ourselves from our immigrant community. This may lead to a loss of network support, which is another risk factor for mental health issues.

the coarsest portion of a river’s load is associated with _____________.

Answers

The coarsest portion of a river's load consists of large rocks and boulders.

What is the coarsest portion of a river's load?

The coarsest portion of a river's load is associated with the sediment or particles that are the largest in size and have the highest weight. When a river flows, it carries along various materials such as rocks, sand, silt, and clay, collectively known as its sediment load.

The river's load can be classified into different categories based on the size of the particles. This classification is known as sediment sorting or sediment grading. Sediment grading is determined by the river's energy or velocity, which affects its ability to transport particles of different sizes.

The coarsest portion of the river's load is associated with the larger particles that require higher energy to be transported. These particles are typically composed of rocks and boulders. They are too heavy to be lifted and carried by the river's flow for long distances and tend to settle closer to the source of the river or in areas where the flow velocity decreases significantly, such as at the riverbed or along the banks.

The coarser sediment is usually found in the upper reaches of a river, where the flow velocity is higher, and the energy is sufficient to transport larger particles.

As the river flows downstream and the velocity decreases, it can no longer transport the larger particles, resulting in their deposition.

It's important to note that the size and composition of a river's load can vary depending on factors such as the geology of the river basin, the slope of the river, and the amount of water flowing in the river.

Additionally, human activities such as dam construction or sand mining can also impact the sediment load and its characteristics in a river.

Answers

1. The various myths that Americans created about the mound builders were that the mound builders were not American Indians, but instead a lost tribe from another continent.

Some said that the mounds were built by European explorers from long before Columbus’s time. These myths were harmful for American Indians as they worked to erase the historical contributions of American Indians to North American culture.2. The Hopewell and Mississippian cultures defy traditional stereotypes of American Indians living north of Mexico in several ways. The Hopewell culture, for example, was a highly developed trading culture that constructed elaborate burial mounds.

The Mississippian culture was marked by large, walled cities with complex social and political structures. These cultures were significant as they showed that American Indians had complex societies with advanced technologies and that North America was not just a “wilderness” waiting to be tamed by Europeans.3. Native Americans joined the missions for various reasons, including the promise of food, clothing, and shelter.

However, the missions were ultimately destructive because they were designed to assimilate Native Americans into European culture and religion. The specific Spanish actions that made the missions oppressive include forced labor, beatings, and whippings, as well as the removal of Native American children from their families and communities to be raised in European-style boarding schools.

How can we help otters survive?

The subfamily Lutrinae of carnivorous mammals includes otters. All 13 of the otter species that are still alive are semi-aquatic, aquatic, or marine, and they all eat fish and invertebrates for food. The Mustelidae family, which also contains weasels, badgers, mink, and wolverines among other creatures, includes a branch known as the Lutrinae. Otters are regarded as friendly animals, but like most other animals, they keep their distance from humans, according to Nicole Duplaix, chair of the International Union for Conservation of Nature's Otter Specialist Group. River otters are bright and observant creatures. Their senses of smell and hearing are highly developed. They forage and explore their home range for the most of the day. All year round, they are active both during the day and at night, though they are more nocturnal in places with heavy human disturbance. Otters can interact with people since they reside close to lakes or ponds and burrow in ditches. It may seem unfathomable that otters might be deadly given their endearing appearance and playful behaviour. Otters can, however, become violent when necessary. The creatures occasionally go so far as to seek snakes in addition to their typical diet of fish.

Answers

A.) ∠2 = 130o because ∠1 and ∠2 form a linear pair and are congruent. ∠7 = 50o because ∠1 and ∠7 are supplementary, since they are alternate exterior angles.

This is the correct answer. ∠1 and ∠2 form a linear pair, meaning they are adjacent angles that add up to 180 degrees. Since ∠1 is 130 degrees, ∠2 must be the remaining 50 degrees. ∠1 and ∠7 are alternate exterior angles, meaning they are on opposite sides of the transversal and outside the parallel lines. Alternate exterior angles are congruent, so ∠7 must also be 50 degrees to make ∠1 and ∠7 supplementary, adding up to 180 degrees.

The Andes mountains were created due to
the subduction of the Pacific and South American plate
the collision of the Pacific plate and the North American plate
the collision of the Caribbean plate with the South American plate
None of above

Answers

Answer:

None of the above are correct. The Andes were created because of the subduction between the Nazca plate and South American plate.

Explanation:

The Andes are the longest and highest mountain range in South America, but also it is among the longest and highest in the entire world. It is a mountain range that stretches roughly in a north-south direction in the western part of the continent. Out of all of the major mountain ranges in the world, the Andes are the steepest of them all.

This mountain chain is located near the plate boundary between the Nazca plate and the South American plate. The smaller, oceanic Nazca plate subducts below the larger, continental South American plate. By doing so, the Nazca plate gets into the mantle, but it also manages to push up the crust of the South American plate, resulting in crust rising very high in elevation, eventually resulting in the formation of the Andes.

It is often thought that it is the Pacific plate that subducts below the South American plate, but that is not true, but a misconception because the Nazca plate is covered with the Pacific Ocean. The Nazca plate is an ancient plate that has been subducting for millions of years now and it will continue to do so for many millions of years in the future as well.

studies about logging in forest would almost certainly touch on

Answers

Studies about logging in forests would almost certainly touch on Human-environmental interactions because humans and the environment are intertwined. Logging can affect not only the ecosystem but also the lives of individuals and communities that rely on the forest for survival.

Human activities like logging and deforestation have a significant impact on the environment, leading to deforestation, soil erosion, and biodiversity loss. When trees are cut down, it affects the ecosystem in a variety of ways, causing habitat destruction, soil erosion, and the loss of biodiversity. Because forests are home to many species, including flora and fauna, logging has a significant impact on their habitat. The impact of logging on human populations that rely on forests for survival can't be overlooked either.

Indigenous people, for example, depend on the forest for their livelihood, including gathering medicinal plants and other resources. Logging companies and policies can thus have a negative impact on the cultural and social lives of these individuals and communities. Moreover, the human-environmental interaction has a direct relationship with logging. If there is an increase in demand for logging, humans will log more trees, which can result in habitat destruction and deforestation.

Conversely, if there is a decrease in demand for logging, humans will log fewer trees, reducing the environmental impact. Logging in the forest can't be stopped, but it can be regulated to protect the environment and human communities. Thus, studies about logging should not only focus on the environmental impact but also on the social impact, especially on the lives of human populations that depend on forests. This would help policymakers understand the effects of their policies and create more comprehensive strategies that take human-environmental interactions into account.

IV. Indenture California Indians

Answers

The 1850 Act for the Government Protection of Indians did not Protect California Indians effectively, so the answer is the option I. Protect California Indians.

This law, which was passed in California in 1850, allowed for the indenture of Native Americans and placed them in a position of quasi-slavery. They were forced to work under harsh conditions and were often subject to mistreatment. It also allowed non-Indians to take control of their land, which was a significant problem for California Indians.

This law was aimed at addressing what the authorities saw as the "Indian problem" by forcing Native Americans to live in designated areas and take up farming, as well as requiring them to work for non-Indians without pay. The law aimed to strip California Indians of their land and resources, making them easier to control and suppress. As a result, the law did not effectively protect California Indians.
